  • Advice To Mothers In Their Early 20s: ‘Don’t Forget About Yourself, Mama’

Advice To Mothers In Their Early 20s: ‘Don’t Forget About Yourself, Mama’

Motherhood is an identity shift resulting in an emotional psychological awakening of oneself. These factors can challenge a woman entirely and force adjustment due to a woman’s unrealistic expectation of motherly transitions.

The media often masks the realities of motherhood causing conflict in many young women’s lives who may not receive their maternal instinct right away after giving birth. In most cases, this is a clear representation of the concept of Maternal Ambivalence.

Women should be more honest and open to discussing the complexities of motherhood. As a mother myself, I can see the standards of perfectionism and self-judgment we hold ourselves accountable for and they are unrealistic. Here is some advice to navigate through this tough beautiful journey:

    1. Do Not Forget About Yourself, Mama

As a first-time mom, oftentimes, you are put on the back burner for your new bundle of joy. Although your loved ones are excited about the new addition to the family, it is common that mothers are no longer the top priority you once were. It is a great feeling to see your loved ones in awe of your blessing, but do not forget to give yourself that same love and attention. You need it now more than ever!

    2. Be Patient

Give yourself some grace mama. Be patient with yourself, be kind. You may have raised other children, but those experiences do not compare to beginning your own journey as a parent. Every child is different, just like every pregnancy is different, so why would you expect the same version of yourself? Get rid of the pressures that society puts out there of maternal ambivalence. Take your time learning about yourself and your baby in this new chapter, and minimize those expectations you have of yourself. It will be easier to enjoy these new moments with your family.

    3. Find Your Tribe/Support System

Every day you wake up as a mom, you wake up with your invisible capes on. It is fine to not be super mom sometimes. Do not be afraid to ask for help when it is needed. Build your tribe and create a support system that can aid you when you can’t help yourself. It can be tiresome trying to balance your wants and needs; however, it’s necessary to make the time. You are not a burden, allow your village to contribute.

Mother Shocked After Son Received Bad Grades For Failing To Bring Classroom Supplies

A mother recently took to TikTok to share a concerning incident involving her son’s teacher and classroom supplies for the entire class. In her video, which has gained over 2 million views and a plethora of comments, Shanitta explained that her son was instructed to bring in supplies such as tissues, hand sanitizer, and wipes for his classroom

She bought classroom supplies, but a zero still marked her son’s classroom supplies grade in the third week. Shanitta emailed the teacher, disagreeing with grading students based on supply contributions. She also reached out to the principal to address the issue. She explained,

“I don’t feel that it’s the parent’s job to supply your classroom. And, I definitely don’t think it’s appropriate to assign a grade to students based off of whether or not they supplied your class with supplies.”

BuzzFeed contacted Shanitta, who explained that she contacted the principal to highlight the financial strain this requirement places on families, particularly those who are already struggling. The principal responded by stating that penalizing students for lacking supplies is not standard practice.

    She told the news outlet,

“I pointed out to the principal that although my family could afford to buy the additional supplies, there are many families that are already struggling to buy their children’s personal school supplies and simply can’t afford the extra. This would mainly affect lower income families and that isn’t right for the kids as it’s not their fault.”

Shanitta thinks schools should supply resources, not just relying on teachers or parents. Many TikTok users supported Shanitta’s viewpoint, agreeing that students should not be penalized for not bringing in supplies.

Mother Charged With Murder After 7-Year-Old Girl Was Discovered Dead In Closet, Reports Say She Was Left In The Closet For Months

Sadly, a young girl’s body was discovered decaying in an Atlanta home after officials received an anonymous tip. The victim was identified as 7-year-old Alivia Hobbs-Jordan. Although the home was evacuated for months, a man found the apartment door open and smelled a horrible odor, according to Cafemom. PEOPLE reported that the man witnessed an arm hanging out of the closet and instantly contacted officials. The unnamed man recalled,

    “She looked like a mummy.”

Officials believe the mother, Alondra Hobbs, left the autistic girl, at some point, between February 28 and June 25. On June 29, the mother was apprehended and later charged with felony murder and cruelty in the second degree, said The Dekalb County Police Department in a Facebook post.

According to ABC 7, a neighbor informed officials that it’s been several months since they’ve seen the tenant. Another unnamed neighbor informed WSB that earlier in the year, the mother expressed that she wanted to kill herself. The neighbor said,

“Everybody like, ‘Why you want to kill yourself?’ She never said…But she never let you in her apartment. Never.”

Authorities confirmed that the young girl was left in the closet for several months; however, they haven’t confirmed the exact cause of death. PEOPLE reported that officials believe the mother purposely abandoned the child and had no plans of returning to the apartment. When police located the girl in the closet, they found

“what appeared to be a full head of hair and decayed flesh that was in the form of an arm and leg.”

They also discovered mail with the mother’s name on it.

Relatives spoke about the incident, as one family member, Latrience Robinson said,

“I just didn’t see that in her. We all have issues, but I didn’t think she would do something to her kids,”

Fox 5 reported. Robinson told WAGA,

“We had no clue…The baby was supposed to be with the dad’s mom in Albany. That’s what she kept telling us.”
