  • Woman Sentenced in Smuggling Case Resulting in Deaths of 16 Cubans Who Were Trying to Reach Florida

Woman Sentenced in Smuggling Case Resulting in Deaths of 16 Cubans Who Were Trying to Reach Florida

A federal district judge in Miami sentenced a 25-year-old woman to seven and a half years in prison on Friday for her involvement in a journey that resulted in the deaths of over a dozen individuals attempting to illegally enter the United States, according to WFLA

Yaquelin Dominguez-Nieves, a Cuban national who entered the country unlawfully in October 2022, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to smuggle aliens and related charges earlier this year, as stated by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Just a month after arriving in the U.S., officials reported that Dominguez-Nieves and her boyfriend started planning to illegally transport 18 Cubans by boat from the island. They intended to navigate through the Florida Straits to reach the coast of Florida.

They charged fees for the journey, collecting approximately $11,500 from the families of the migrants in South Florida, assuring them that they would safely deliver their loved ones across the water. On November 16, 2024, all 18 individuals boarded a fishing boat that set off from Playa Jaimanitas. It was reported that the boat had only traveled about 30 miles when it began to sink, leading to just two survivors.

Among those who lost their lives were children, with officials noting that three of their bodies were found washed ashore in Monroe County. Their cause of death was attributed to “drowning.” The two survivors indicated that the boat was too small for 18 people, didn’t have lifejackets, and the captain appeared to be inexperienced, according to their accounts.

  • Chinese Tourist Couple Arrested for Allegedly Having Intercourse in the Streets of Thailand

Chinese Tourist Couple Arrested for Allegedly Having Intercourse in the Streets of Thailand

A Chinese couple has been taken into custody after engaging in sexual intercourse on a street in Thailand, as reported by the NY Post. Oh Zhihang, 67, and his partner Lin Tingting, 35, set up a tripod and began recording themselves while performing the act on the pavement in Pattaya on Wednesday.

Bystanders were shocked as the indecent couple carried on in broad daylight and in full view of the public. Police quickly responded to the scene in South Pattaya after a security guard reported the incident. He recounted seeing the couple having sex on the sidewalk near the entrance to the well-known Walking Street.

    Suspects Identified and Apprehended

The guard managed to take photos of the couple before they left, which he later shared with the police, per the Bangkok Post. Officers located the couple at their hotel and brought them to the Pattaya City police station for interrogation. Humiliating footage showed their uncomfortable elevator ride and the couple’s “walk of shame” to the station.

Zhihang told authorities that he was unaware that engaging in public sex was against the law in Thailand. Zhihang communicated this to the police through an interpreter. “I’m a photographer who likes to travel around the world to take nude photos in various locations. I have visited many countries where I have done the same thing.” Officials disclosed that the couple expressed regret for their actions, stating, “I apologize to the Thai people and the officials for damaging the image of Pattaya.”

Police Colonel Songwut Chueplakij said the couple would be fined for engaging in lewd behavior. They face up to 10 years in prison if it is determined that they published their explicit content. “The maximum fine is 5,000 Baht [$149.24 USD] each for public indecency. They are also being interrogated in connection with the Computer Crime Act. This fine can be 100,000 Baht [$2984.72 USD].”

  • Disturbed Parents Plead Guilty to Forcibly Tattooing Their Young Children After Restraining Them, Then Attempting to Remove Ink with Lemon Juice

Disturbed Parents Plead Guilty to Forcibly Tattooing Their Young Children After Restraining Them, Then Attempting to Remove Ink with Lemon Juice

A couple from Texas has pleaded guilty to forcibly tattooing their two young children while they were restrained, gagged, and blindfolded, according to the NY Post

The mother and stepfather, Megan and Gunner Farr, confessed to using a staple to tattoo their 5 and 9-year-old children. Following a report to Child Protective Services, they desperately attempted to erase the tattoos by scraping and scrubbing the children’s skin so intensely that “flesh was removed,” as reported by KTRE.

“There were visible injuries on the child at the specific location of the tattoo and it appeared that the flesh was removed from the body at the tattoo location,” interim Zavalla Police Chief Lt. James Denby said when the disturbed couple was arrested on April 24, 2023.

    Details of Horrific Abuse

Police reported that Megan, 27, and Gunner, 23, restrained the children with rope, blindfolded them with a rag, and taped their mouths shut before using a pointed needle to tattoo their skin. The couple marked the 5-year-old’s foot and the 9-year-old’s shoulder, as detailed in an arrest affidavit obtained by the news outlet.

On April 17, 2023, the children’s biological father and stepmother alerted Child Protective Services after noticing the tattoos and questioning Megan Farr, who reportedly laughed before driving away. The CPS investigation led the disturbed parents to attempt to remove the tattoos by cutting, scraping, and scrubbing the children’s skin with lemon juice, according to the affidavit. Officials later removed both children, along with their younger siblings, from the home.

Megan Farr pleaded guilty on Thursday to causing injury to a child, as reported by the outlet. She is slated to receive her sentencing in May. Gunner Farr pleaded guilty on March 20 and was sentenced to five years in prison for bodily injury charges and an additional two years for unlawful restraint, according to KTRE.

  • McDonald’s Employee Tackles Teen to the Ground and Chokes Her for Going Behind the Counter too Get Ranch Dressing

McDonald’s Employee Tackles Teen to the Ground and Chokes Her for Going Behind the Counter too Get Ranch Dressing

A McDonald‘s employee in Florida reportedly choked a 17-year-old girl to the ground after the teen allegedly went behind the counter to get her own ranch dressing, according to police statements cited by the NY Post.

Akeena Sampson, 31, was on duty at a St. Petersburg McDonald’s on April 4 when she “knowingly or willfully” assaulted the teenager, as reported by the Miami Herald. The girl had reportedly gone behind the counter to grab some ranch after the staff did not assist her, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the paper.

As the girl was walking away, Sampson grabbed her arm and began to attack her. The teenager attempted to break free, but Sampson then seized her neck, “choking her and taking her to the ground,” police said. Sampson is alleged to have continued choking the girl while she was on the floor, leaving her with “visible injuries” on her neck and elbow, as stated in the affidavit.

Authorities also reviewed video footage that reportedly captured the entire incident. Sampson was arrested on a charge of child abuse without great bodily harm. Records from Pinellas County indicate that she was held on a $2,500 bond but has since been released, according to Fox News. A spokesperson for McDonald’s USA confirmed that they are aware of the situation and have placed Sampson on administrative leave while an investigation is conducted. “We do not tolerate violence of any kind in our restaurants,” the chain said in a statement.

  • President Donald Trump Must Face Defamation Lawsuit from Exonerated Five, Judge Rules

President Donald Trump Must Face Defamation Lawsuit from Exonerated Five, Judge Rules

President Donald Trump is currently facing a defamation lawsuit from the men known as the “Central Park Five,” according to Huff Post. The five men—Yusef Salaam, Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Raymond Santana, and Korey Wise—were just teenagers in 1989 when they were wrongfully convicted and imprisoned for the rape and assault of a white woman who was jogging in Central Park, New York City.

At that time, Trump placed full-page ads in newspapers across New York City advocating for the reinstatement of the death penalty following the arrests of these teens. He is now dealing with the repercussions of his recent remarks in which he continues to deny the wrongful conviction of the five men.

U.S. District Judge Wendy Beetlestone has ruled that the five innocent Black and Hispanic men can move forward with their legal case against Trump regarding comments he made during the 2024 presidential campaign. On Thursday, Beetlestone chose not to dismiss the lawsuit.

Initially, all five men pleaded guilty due to pressure from law enforcement, but they later withdrew those pleas. Though they were convicted by a jury, those convictions were overturned in 2002 after DNA evidence linked the crime to another man who confessed.

When reporters asked Trump in 2019 if he would apologize to the men for previously calling for their executions, he responded, “They admitted their guilt.” However, it was Trump’s latest remarks in 2024 that prompted the lawsuit. During a presidential debate on September 10 with then-Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump reiterated his belief that pleading guilty under pressure is the same as admitting to a crime. The group is seeking a jury trial to assess unspecified monetary damages.

  • Long Island Teacher Accused of Dropping Textbooks on Special Needs Student’s Head and Locking One in a Closet

Long Island Teacher Accused of Dropping Textbooks on Special Needs Student’s Head and Locking One in a Closet

A Long Island school is under fire for reportedly taking no action while a former teacher “tormented” special needs second graders, as reported by the NY Post.

Former Cornwall School teacher, John O’Dwyer, is accused of various forms of abuse. These include dropping textbooks on kid’s heads, as detailed in a recent legal filing and echoed by upset parents. The filing is seeking $20 million in damages.

    Details of O’Dwyer’s Alleged Abuse

O’Dwyer is accused of mistreating one frightened boy by dragging him across the classroom and even locking him in a dark closet while he cried out for help.

The claim, which serves as a precursor to a civil lawsuit against a municipal agency, asserts that the school not only “failed to prevent” O’Dwyer’s misconduct but was also made aware of the abuse and “did nothing about it.” In the first of several claims being filed against the West Hempstead Union Free School District and Cornwall School, one family alleges that O’Dwyer specifically targeted their son for “humiliating abuse,” inflicting both physical and mental “torment” that included kicking and punching him.

“We will uncover the full truth of what happened — and expose how the West Hempstead Union Free School District allowed this cruelty to continue for so long,” said Nathan Werksman, a partner at Merson Law, PLLC.

The mother who submitted the notice of claim stated that her son, who has special needs, informed her that the alleged abuse occurred frequently throughout the 2023-2024 school year. An assistant teacher was “present for much of the abuse” and the school “ignored complaints about O’Dwyer’s behavior,” according to the claim.

According to the father of the victim, several other families are also preparing to take legal action. The father, who requested to remain anonymous, reported that O’Dwyer would take a textbook—”a heavy, old-fashioned textbook”—and throw or drop it onto the students’ heads.

  • Woman Claims Sister-in-Law Had to be Physically Removed from Family Baby Shower After Making the Expecting Mother Cry

Woman Claims Sister-in-Law Had to be Physically Removed from Family Baby Shower After Making the Expecting Mother Cry

A mother recalled the moment she had to have her sister-in-law removed from her daughter’s baby shower. The 47-year-old woman detailed the incident in a post on Reddit’s well-known “Am I The A——” forum, explaining that the confrontation occurred during her 25-year-old daughter’s baby shower for her second child, per PEOPLE

    How it Started

“Her first child, Phillip, was stillborn two years ago at 38 weeks,” the woman explained. “When she lost him, she asked us to take apart the nursery before she got home and ‘get rid of’ the baby equipment” because it would make her sad seeing it around the house.

“We offered to return the baby shower gifts to the givers, most kindly refused and asked us to donate the items… except my husband’s sister, Rachel,” she continued. “She made a HUGE deal out of my daughter being ‘hysterical’ and constantly, loudly talked about how ‘ridiculous’ it was to take apart the nursery.”

Since that incident, the woman mentioned that she has intentionally restricted her sister-in-law’s interactions with her daughter. The sister-in-law wasn’t allowed to attend family gatherings until she agreed to stop discussing the matter.

    How it Ended

However, at her daughter’s baby shower, particularly when it came time to open gifts the sister-in-law blurted out, “If you hadn’t torn Phillip’s nursery apart and gotten rid of everything, you wouldn’t be here begging for presents for this baby,’ ” the Redditor recalled.

She said that her daughter instantly “froze,” and then “tears started running down her face.” This led the woman to tell her sister-in-law to leave, but she refused to. Her husband came into the room and asked “what happened,” she shared. “His mom told him and he physically picked up his sister and put her down outside the door.”

The rest of the family largely supports her decision, she assured Redditors.

A 35-year-old man in Texas is in custody after his girlfriend, 67, alleged that he deliberately poured hot soup on her, resulting in third-degree burns, per PEOPLE

Alexander Alton McDavid was taken into custody on multiple charges, including assault causing bodily injury with a prior conviction, injury to an elderly person, continuous violence against family members, resisting arrest, and making terroristic threats against family, as indicated by jail records. According to Law & Crime, he remained in McLennan County Jail on a $130,000 bond as of Monday afternoon.

An arrest affidavit, reported by KWTX, provides further details regarding the allegations against him. According to the documents, the victim stated that on February 28, while at their shared apartment, McDavid became angry and told her she was talking too much. At that moment, she was taking soup out of the microwave when he allegedly “intentionally” struck her plate, causing the hot liquid to spill onto her shoulder and forearm.

The victim reportedly sustained third-degree burns from the incident but did not file a report until a few days later. She claimed that she did not have a car or a cell phone, but went to the police station to report the incident after leaving the home to visit the Social Security Office.

The victim informed the police that they had been together for about a year before he started physically abusing her, alleging that he had previously choked her, although she never reported those incidents to authorities. The suspect has a history of arrests, including one from May 2024 that resulted in an assault-family violence charge, which is still pending.

  • Veterinarian Accused of Kicking Horse in Viral Video is Now Reported Missing

Veterinarian Accused of Kicking Horse in Viral Video is Now Reported Missing

A veterinarian in Nevada, who was reportedly caught on video kicking a horse in a clip that went viral on social media, is now missing, as per various reports. Authorities have stated that he is currently the focus of a criminal investigation.

On April 3, Dr. Shawn Frehner was called to give anesthetic shots to horses at a property in Pahrump, approximately 60 miles west of Las Vegas, according to Shawna Gonzalez, the property’s owner, who spoke to 8 News Now. “I heard [my mother] yell, ‘Oh my God. He just kicked him,’” Gonzalez said, per the outlet. “Oh my God, Mom, he’s choking,” she added. “He wrapped the horse around his neck three times, and he kicked him in the head.”

Gonzalez stated that the horse received treatment for abrasions on its skull and other injuries, according to the outlet. Following this incident, she has advocated for animal cruelty charges to be filed against Frehner, as reported by 8 News Now. Nye County Sheriff Joe McGill confirmed to the outlet that there is an ongoing criminal investigation into Frehner, but no arrests have been made yet.

Vet Defends Himself in Viral Video

Frehner has addressed the allegations in a social media post. “I did not blatantly haul off and kick this horse as it appears in the video. That was not my intention at all,” Frehner said, per 8 News Now. “It was done simply to get the horse in a better position so that he could breathe and get up and move so I could again try to anesthetize.”

Currently, authorities from various agencies are on the lookout for Frehner, who is believed to have gone missing, according to the Review-Journal and Fox 5 Vegas. “The search for a missing individual at Lake Mead National Recreation Area is ongoing,” the National Park Service said in a statement to PEOPLE on April 8.
