Infant Fatally Mauled by Pitbulls While Teen Parents Smoked Weed Outside

A tragic incident occurred in Rochester, NY, where a newborn baby was killed by two dogs in an attic while his teenage parents were using drugs downstairs, according to authorities, per AP News. Sulamain Hawkins and Anastasia Weaver, both 19, pleaded not guilty to manslaughter charges on Thursday. They are accused of leaving their 3-month-old baby alone while they went outside to smoke marijuana.

The heartbreaking event took place on August 3, when the couple placed their baby, Sulamain Hawkins Jr., to sleep on the attic floor before going outside to smoke. The couple reportedly left for about an hour while one or both of their pit bull-type dogs attacked the newborn. When they returned, they found their baby injured.

He was taken to the hospital, where he later died from

    “severe trauma to his body,”

    according to officials.

“The allegations here, we feel, support the recklessness that a reasonable person in these defendants’ situations would not have acted the way they did,”

Assistant DA Sara VanStrydonck said in court.

“They knew a risk and they consciously disregarded that risk.”

Hawkins and Weaver were not arrested until Wednesday. During the week before her arrest, the mother posted a troubling mix of grief and sexually provocative content on social media, reports note. Prosecutors stated that the tragic incident happened in a friend’s rented house, where the dogs were known to be kept in the attic. This is also where the young family had been staying. The tenants have since been evicted, and the dogs have been put down.

NYC Pizzeria Worker In Critical Condition After Being Attacked By Customer’s Aggressive Pit Bull

A worker at a pizzeria in Manhattan was viciously attacked by a customer and his pit bull on Monday night after the customer was told his dog was not allowed inside, reports Pix 11 News. According to police, the 50-year-old worker is in critical condition.

The dog’s owner, 35-year-old Tyshaun Watson, was charged with attempted murder and assault for trying to cause serious injury, police reported. He reportedly said he was

    “sorry”

    when he was arrested.

The altercation began when the pizzeria worker told Watson to stop bringing his dog inside without a leash, which escalated to a shouting match between the two. Watson became irate and started kicking and punching the worker, according to police. He then pulled the worker out of the pizzeria, slammed him onto the sidewalk, and hit him multiple times before stepping back, as shown in the surveillance footage.

The pit bull then jumped on the worker and bit him several times. Watson also returned and kicked the worker in the head several times, according to the video. He was unconscious and on a breathing machine on Tuesday morning, according to sources.

As he went to court in Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon, Watson told reporters that he was sorry.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the victim,”

    he said.

“I wish him a speedy recovery.”

When asked if he meant to do it, he replied

    “Absolutely not. That’s not me.”

  • ‘Psychologist’ Befriends 15-Year-Old Girl, Then Forces Her Into Hotel Room Where She Was Sexually Abused

‘Psychologist’ Befriends 15-Year-Old Girl, Then Forces Her Into Hotel Room Where She Was Sexually Abused

A woman named Maria Ximena Duarte, 45, who calls herself a

    “psychologist,”

befriended a 15-year-old girl and tried to get her to have sex with two adult men, reports Law & Crime. She is now in jail in Miami-Dade, Florida, facing charges of human trafficking of a child, lewd and lascivious exhibition on a child younger than 16 while the defendant is older than 18, lewd and lascivious battery, and interference with custody.

According to court documents, one of the men is accused of sexually abusing the girl, but only their first names are mentioned. They haven’t been charged yet, and Law & Crime is not revealing their names. The investigation is ongoing, police said.

Documents reveal that the girl told police she met Duarte at a hotel pool area while walking her dog on Tuesday. Duarte quickly became friends with the teenager, claiming to be a psychologist, and gaining the young girl’s trust to open up to her.  Duarte then allegedly offered the girl a marijuana cigarette and some alcoholic drinks. The girl refused the alcohol but spent time in Duarte’s hotel room, going home and returning the next day.

On Wednesday, Duarte reportedly took pictures of the girl and sent them to a man, claiming that the girl was 21 and interested in having sex with him. The girl, however, rejected it, saying in the paraphrasing of the affidavit that

    “she was not like that.”

Documents state that Duarte had sex with a man in front of the girl and gave her a phone to record it. The documents also say that the defendant performed oral sex during this incident, telling the victim

    “she was teaching her.”

Duarte’s boyfriend arrived at the hotel room, and Duarte tried to leave the girl alone with him. Despite the girl’s discomfort, Duarte pushed her back inside and told her to make the man

    “feel good.”

The girl refused, but Duarte’s boyfriend grabbed her by the head and neck, leading to a sexual assault. While in the room, the girl found out that Duarte exchanged sex for drugs to support her addiction.

  • Emory Healthcare Faces Lawsuit After Hospital Staff Allegedly Lost Part Of Man’s Skull During Surgery, Then Charged Him $19K To Build New One

Emory Healthcare Faces Lawsuit After Hospital Staff Allegedly Lost Part Of Man’s Skull During Surgery, Then Charged Him $19K To Build New One

A couple from Atlanta has sued Emory Healthcare, claiming the hospital lost part of a man’s skull during surgery, leading to more surgeries, pain, and high medical bills, per 11 Alive. Fernando and Melinda Cluster are requesting compensation after a piece of Fernando’s skull went missing at Emory University Hospital Midtown after he had surgery for a brain bleed.

In their lawsuit, filed in DeKalb County State Court, they explain that on September 30, 2022, Fernando had a procedure called a decompressive hemicraniectomy, where a section of his skull, known as a bone flap, was removed. He was supposed to have that bone flap put back during another surgery on November 11, 2022. However, when the hospital staff went to find it, they realized that several bone flaps were either not labeled correctly or had no identification at all, making it impossible to tell which one belonged to Fernando.

“They’re scared. They’re terrified every day. They got various contradictory messages about why surgery was postponed and ultimately, Emory told them that they had lost and misplaced a part of his skull,”

the couple’s attorney Chloe Dallaire said.

“It’s mind blowing, literally, not to play a pun on words, but an institution like Emory misplacing and mislabeling people’s body parts? It’s unfathomable,”

    Dallaire continued.

Weeks later, Fernando received a 3D printed synthetic skull flap to replace the lost piece. Emory Hospital then reportedly tried charging him $19,000 for making the synthetic flap. The lawsuit mentions that the hospital billed Fernando for the synthetic flap, the extra days in the hospital, and the procedures needed because of the delay.

“He was charged for the additional time he had to wait in the hospital for the flap to be made. Subsequently, he had an infection. The synthetic flap had to be removed. He had to spend more time in the hospital, and then he was charged for all the costs associated with a new flap and another surgery,”

    Dallaire told the outlet.

The Clusters are seeking compensation for Fernando’s lasting injuries and over $146,845.60 in medical bills. Melinda claims his injuries have deprived her of his love, society, and companionship. They want a jury trial, asking for damages from Emory Healthcare and any other relief the court finds suitable.

  • Halle Berry Requests Full Legal Custody Of Her Son, Claims Ex Is Turning Child Against Her

Halle Berry Requests Full Legal Custody Of Her Son, Claims Ex Is Turning Child Against Her

Halle Berry is in an ongoing custody battle with her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez. She believes their 10-year-old son is struggling because of it, and she now wants sole legal custody.

In new legal documents obtained by TMZ, Halle says Olivier’s

    “turbulent and detrimental behavior”

is affecting their son Maceo. She details that the boy is facing significant behavior and learning issues that Olivier is not willing to deal with.

Halle says Olivier has been a major hurdle in getting Maceo the help he needs, focusing more on soccer than on school, which has caused Maceo to fall behind. She claims Olivier won’t hire a tutor because it would clash with soccer practice. Halle also says that when Olivier has Maceo for a long time, he returns to her feeling angry and upset.

She claims Olivier talks to Maceo about their disagreements on parenting, sharing his side of things, and this has affected Maceo negatively. Halle admits she’s not perfect, but prides herself on being an exemplary parent. She feels that Olivier has not been.

Right now, they share joint physical and legal custody, but Halle is asking the judge for full legal custody. She thinks this is the only way to help Maceo get back on track. She wants to have the power to make decisions about his education and therapy. This custody battle has been going on for years. Halle and Olivier separated in 2015 after being married for 2 years, but their divorce wasn’t finalized until last August. Most of their disagreements have been about how to raise their child.

10-Year-Old Bedridden Boy Starves To Death After Mom Suffers Fatal Overdose Inside NYC Apartment

A 10-year-old boy who was reportedly immobile and relied on a feeding tube has tragically died of starvation, reports the NY Post

His mother, who had several run-ins with the Administration for Children’s Services, accidentally overdosed in their Bronx apartment. Police discovered their bodies late Wednesday after receiving complaints about a bad smell coming from their apartment in the Marble Hill housing complex.

The 39-year-old mother, whose name has not been disclosed, had been looked into by child services for abuse and neglect, reports note. There was a time when her son was taken away from her, but he was later returned.

Many people, including officials, were upset by this tragic incident and believe it could have been prevented if child services hadn’t made a big mistake.

“If you investigate a parent and return a child who later dies, that is a crime and someone needs to be held accountable,”

an investigator said to The Post.

“You can’t hide behind bureaucracy: ACS needs a total overhaul. This happens too many times, and one time is too much because we are talking about defenseless children.”

  • 12-Year-Old Girl Passes Away After Parents Attempt To Treat Serious Injuries With Smoothies, Police Say

12-Year-Old Girl Passes Away After Parents Attempt To Treat Serious Injuries With Smoothies, Police Say

A 12-year-old girl from Texas passed away on Monday after her mother and stepfather waited four days to get her medical attention for serious injuries, reports NBC News. Instead of taking her to a doctor, they tried to treat her with smoothies. Miranda Sipps, a cheerleader at Jourdanton Junior High School in Christine, Texas, was found in very bad condition when her mother called 911 on Monday evening, according to the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office.

Emergency responders met them on the highway after they left their home and quickly took the unconscious girl to the hospital.

Unfortunately, Sipps was declared dead shortly after arriving in the emergency room.

An investigation by the sheriff’s office found that Sipps had serious and life-threatening injuries the Thursday before her death.

For four days, her mother and stepfather did not seek medical help, even though she was mostly unconscious. No other children were living in the home.

“She was not talking. She basically could flutter her eyes and move her hands a little bit over a four-day period,”

Sheriff David Soward said at a news conference,

“and they had her laying on a pallet in the house.”

Soward added that the couple tried

“to give her smoothies, but somebody who is unconscious is not able to swallow.”

The mother was identified as 36-year-old Denise Balbaneda, and the stepfather, Gerald Gonzales, 40. They were both arrested on Tuesday afternoon and charged with a first-degree felony for injury to a child by omission. Investigators think the couple didn’t seek medical care to keep the police away from their home. The cause of Sipps’ injuries is still being investigated.

The incident took place on June 20 in a wooded area on Haven of Rest Road. Authorities say that 36-year-old Tony L. Charboneau attacked his ex, Amy Hogue, during a fight, hitting and kicking her. Simone Biles’ Biological Mother Asks The Olympic Gymnast For Forgiveness After Years Of Separation, ‘Let’s Move Forward’

Shanon Biles, who is the biological mother of Olympic Champion Simone Biles, says she wants to rekindle her relationship with her daughter.

In a recent interview with Daily Mail, Shanon, who is 52, expressed that her relationship with Simone is estranged due to her challenges with drugs. Ultimately this caused all four of her children to go in and out of foster care while growing up.

Simone and her younger sister were eventually adopted by their maternal grandfather and his second wife. Her older siblings were adopted by their grandfather’s sister. Shanon shared how difficult it was for her to step back and let others take care of her kids.

“It was hard to give up my kids, but I had to do what I had to do. I wasn’t able to care for them. I was still using and [my father] didn’t want me coming in and out of their lives when I wasn’t right.”

Shanon has missed important moments in Simone Biles’ life, including her wedding to NFL player Jonathan Owens and her recent wins at the 2024 Paralympic Games. Shanon expressed her deep wish for forgiveness from her daughter, saying,

“I would like to make amends with Simone personally – I’m just waiting for her and [her younger sister] Adria. I speak to Adria more than I speak to Simone. I would just ask her to forgive me. Can we move forward? Don’t judge me on my past. Let’s move forward.”

Shanon says she is currently clean and isn’t

“the person [she] used to be.”

Simone’s biological dad would also like to rebuild a relationship with her, Shanon also revealed in the interview.
