Officer Faces Termination For Accidentally Shooting Driver With His Own Gun During Traffic Stop

A female police officer is facing termination after accidentally shooting a man with his own gun during a traffic stop in Florida, according to TMZ.

Body camera footage shows Jason Arrington cooperating with the officers on the scene. In the video released by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, he calmly informs an officer that he has a gun on him. Arrington was stopped for running a red light. As he gets out of his SUV, two officers search him. That’s when Officer Mindy Cardwell takes the gun from his waistband, and it unexpectedly goes off.

There was immediate chaos as another officer told Cardwell to drop the gun. He then helped the injured Arrington to a grassy area. Blood was soaking through Arrington’s pants because the bullet had gone through his upper thigh. This caused a serious arterial bleed, reports note. The officers were able to stop the bleeding quickly with a tourniquet.

Arrington is expected to make a full recovery. He is now suing over the incident from December. He claims he has lasting injuries that affect his job as a crane operator. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said an internal investigation found Cardwell was incompetent. She is in the process of being fired.

Officials determined that she had trouble pulling Arrington’s gun from its holster and accidentally placed her fingers inside the trigger guard, which caused the gun to fire. In the state of Florida, residents are legally allowed to have a concealed weapon without a permit.

  • Man Living In Fear After His Ex-Girlfriend Was Released On Bond For Allegedly Trying To Kill Him

Man Living In Fear After His Ex-Girlfriend Was Released On Bond For Allegedly Trying To Kill Him

HOUSTON — A man is living in fear following the release of his ex-girlfriend, who is accused of shooting him multiple times, per WCNC

Elvis Muñoz was released from the hospital and is recovering at home after he says his ex-girlfriend tried to kill him. Muñoz said his ex, Alexys Pinto, fired so many shots that her gun eventually ran out of bullets. As he heals from surgeries on his lungs, intestines, and hands, he is increasingly concerned about her recent release on bond.

“You’re willing to take care of someone and love them so much for three years and for them to pay you with bullets, try to take your life,” Muñoz told the outlet.

After some reflection, Elvis Muñoz described his past relationship as abusive. Muñoz described his ex as jealous, controlling, and said she would isolate him from his family and friends. On September 5, his ex-girlfriend, Alexys Pinto, allegedly lured him to a secluded area near 288 and Airport Boulevard under the pretense of watching the sunset, where she then opened fire.

“That’s when I felt my left hand get hit,”

    Muñoz said.

“Like I just felt my hand get hot. I was running, holding my chest and stomach.”

Muñoz said she aimed the gun directly at his face, but he was able to move just in time, resulting in a bullet grazing his skin. After emptying her gun on him, he managed to convince Pinto to seek help. She contacted her father and drove Muñoz to a nearby gas station, where help finally arrived. Following multiple surgeries, Muñoz, who once worked as a mechanic, now faces disability with limited use of his hands.

Pinto was released on bond after it was reduced from $75,000 to $10,000. Although she must adhere to strict conditions, including wearing an ankle monitor, Muñoz remains skeptical about her intentions and fears she may attempt to harm him again.

“She might want to come back and do something,”

    he said.

  • Teen Left Blind In One Eye After Being Targeted and Shot By Paintball Gun

Teen Left Blind In One Eye After Being Targeted and Shot By Paintball Gun

Sadly, a Chicago teen lost sight in one eye after a group allegedly used a high-powered paintball gun in a random Halloween attack. 19-year-old Vicky Murillo and her friend were followed by a car. The car turned around and shot paintballs at them sadly, causing the damage.

Adrean, the victim’s older brother, said,

“They were both on the floor, crying and screaming, their hot chocolate next to them on the floor.”

Murillo and her friend were badly injured and bleeding on the ground until paramedics transported them to a hospital. One paintball hit Murillo’s face, damaging her eye. After emergency surgery, she still hasn’t regained vision, leaving doctors uncertain about recovery.

The teen’s brother told ABC Chicago,

“Unfortunately, it’s very unlikely, and if there’s any vision restored to that eye, it’s going to be extremely blurry.”

The teen has multiple surgeries planned for her injuries. Her family is waiting to see the results and staying as hopeful as possible. Murillo expressed frustration over the senseless crime, as neighbors also reported being shot with paintballs on Halloween.

The growing evidence from videos and matching car descriptions from neighbors has convinced Adrean that there was vindictive intent behind the attacks that resulted in his sister being hospitalized.

Adrean is collaborating with detectives to identify the shooter believed to have caused his sister’s blindness, hoping that serious charges will be filed against the person responsible.

Three Women Shot In Miami After Heated Discussion About The Election, One In Critical Condition

Florida police are searching for a gunman who shot three women during a heated discussion about the election, reports the NY Post. The shooting occurred early Wednesday morning in Miami. One of the victims is in critical condition.

“A group was drinking and talking about politics when the shooting suspect went to a vehicle, retrieved a firearm, and began shooting,”

said the police department’s spokesperson Michael Vega.

“They saw chaos and people running,”

    he said.

“Three people were shot. The woman in critical condition was shot in the abdomen. The other two victims, one of whom was shot several times, are in stable condition.”

The victims were all women in their late 20s to early 30s, as reported by the police.

“Witnesses said one of them became upset, possibly intoxicated, and returned to the vehicle to retrieve the weapon,”

    Vega explained.

    He added,

“It seems that alcohol, along with the election discussion, led this person to go to the vehicle, grab a gun, and start shooting. But this is not acceptable. We have to handle our differences and respect each other’s beliefs. We need to either reach an agreement or simply avoid such topics.”

The shooting took place on the 500 block of Northwest 19th Street. A neighbor named Suly Ashe told WFOR that she heard gunshots around 12:30 a.m. Investigators are still working on identifying a suspect. No arrest has been yet.

Mother Accused Of Forcing 13-Year-Old Daughter To Lie To Police After Shooting Her In The Neck

A 32-year-old woman is in jail in Maryland for allegedly shooting her daughter and then telling her to lie about what happened, as reported by Complex. The woman, Talecka Brown, has been charged with first-degree attempted murder.

The police said they responded to a call at her home on Tuesday afternoon and found a 13-year-old girl injured. Brown’s daughter, was

“suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body,”

police reported. NBC4 Washington reported that the teenager suffered a gunshot wound in her neck and is in critical but stable condition at a local hospital.

Court records from Prince George’s County District Court show that Brown has been charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, first-degree murder, and using a gun during a crime. She is currently in jail without bond, and a preliminary hearing is set for October 25.

“It is always tragic when we have acts of violence within our community, but it is heart-wrenching when the perpetrator is supposed to be your protector,”

Cedric Heyward, Acting Chief of the Seat Pleasant Police Department, said in a news release.

“I am glad to hear that the victim is recovering at a local hospital, but the emotional trauma will remain for some time.”

According to a local NBC report, the victim said she and her mother started arguing when she got home from school. The argument turned physical, and the girl told the police that she heard gunshots while walking down the stairs, at which point she fell. It’s alleged that Brown told her daughter to lie and say an intruder did it. Later, Brown reportedly blamed an unknown homeless person for the shooting.

After Brown’s arrest, prosecutors mentioned a call she made from jail, expressing concern that she might influence her daughter as the case goes on.

Colorado Man Narrowly Escapes Being Shot Thanks To His Necklace, Police Say

A Colorado man’s jewelry proved to be a life-saving accessory. The 32-year-old victim narrowly escaped a potentially fatal gunshot wound thanks to his necklace, as reported by CNN

According to witnesses, the victim was targeted by his father following an argument on May 28. Police reports indicate that the father, aged 66, was later apprehended and was believed to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. He now faces a charge of first-degree attempted murder.

Fortunately, the victim’s silver-colored necklace, estimated to be 10 millimeters wide, played a crucial role in his survival. The necklace successfully deflected the impact of a .22 caliber bullet, preventing it from penetrating his neck and causing further harm.

It is unclear what the necklace was made of, there’s no doubt that it did its job of protecting the person in this amazing situation.

“We don’t know what kind of metal this is, but it’s likely not pure silver,”

    they wrote.

“We looked it up … and silver is soft. So maybe think twice before you knock a knockoff. Just incredible.”
