Sadly, two cheerleaders from Texas were shot after one of them accidentally got into the wrong car in a parking lot minutes after midnight on Tuesday, officials say, according to ABC7

A cheerleader with the Woodlands Elite Cheer Co., Heather Roth, 21, revealed on an Instagram live video that she and three fellow cheerleaders finished practice and then headed to the parking lot they utilized as a carpool hub. Roth said she exited her friend’s vehicle and opened the door to the car she thought was hers; however, a man was in the passenger seat, reports the news outlet. She then revealed that she returned to her friend’s car. The man approached her friend’s vehicle and when Roth rolled down the window to offer an apology, he began shooting.

Reports say that Roth was grazed by a bullet and treated at the scene, while sadly, another cheerleader, Peyton Washington, 18, was struck multiple times in her back and leg. She was later flown to the hospital.

The Woodlands Elite Cheer Company owner, Lynne Shearer, revealed that Payton was

“throwing up blood”

following the incident; however, was

“doing well”

after doctors removed her spleen.

According to CNN Shearer said,

“Her stomach is not closed up yet, and they are keeping her on heavy antibiotics for at least 48 hours to hopefully fight off infection… Once they are sure there is no infection, they will go back in and finish up any issues and close her up.”

Kelan Washington, Payton’s father, told NBC News that his daughter was born with merely one lung; however, she is

“as tough as they come.”

He revealed that he is furious about what happened to his daughter, saying,

“You watched her walk up to your door on accident — it’s a girl in a cheer outfit.”

25-year-old Pedro Tello Rodriguez, Jr. has been apprehended and is being charged with felony deadly conduct.
