A woman was apprehended after officials say she killed her boyfriend’s 6-year-old daughter, Bella Fontenelle. According to People, the woman later went on to place the young girl’s body into a plastic bucket and dropped it off outside of Bella’s biological mother’s home.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office says 43-year-old Hannah Landon is facing several charges including first-degree murder and obstruction of justice in connection with the death of the 6-year-old girl.

Officials were informed that Bella and the woman, Landon, went missing, on Wednesday morning when the young girl’s father realized they weren’t at their Harahan, La. residence, according to a news release. Almost one hour later, officials sadly, located Bella’s body in a large bucket outside of her mom’s house. Reports say it isn’t clear who discovered her.

A release says that footage shows the woman dragging a bucket the night before. Officials were led to believe that the woman murdered Bella before putting her body into the bucket and then taking it to Bella’s mother’s home, which was

“less than two blocks away,”

reports People. It’s unclear why the young girl was killed; however, reports say Bella’s father was ruled out as a suspect in the case.

Sheriff Joe Lopinto said,

“Dad went through extensive interviews today, and we don’t believe he was involved in the murder by any means…As you can imagine, both [he] and the mother are extremely upset, as you would expect of anyone who lost a 6-year-old child unexpectedly.”

Officials say the woman surrendered on Wednesday not too long after midnight. She was taken to the hospital and later arrested. She is being held without bail, reports added.
