22-year-old Blanca Garcia had flown into Thailand with her boyfriend for a memorable getaway. But things turned sour on January 3 at the Koh Yao Elephant Care. Local news sources including El Mundo and El Pais established that she was bathing an elephant on that day before tragedy struck.
Reportedly, Garcia was not alone with the animal as her boyfriend and a handful of tourists were around the place. Consequently, the elephant went wild, thereby injuring the Spanish student with its trunk. Earlier on, some reports revealed that the injuries pm Garcia were from the elephant’s tusk. However, El Mundo maintained that she was hit hard by the animal’s trunk.
While no other tourist sustained any injury, sadly, Blanca Garcia was badly injured and was rushed to the hospital. But in the end, she succumbed to her wounds and passed away. Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that the Bangkok consulate had reached out to Garcia’s family. Meanwhile, the University of Navarra, where the deceased studied, shared a public statement extending their condolences.
As for Koh Yao Elephant Care, the center is now closed. According to People, the owner explained that the elephant who killed Blanca Garcia is 50 years old and it’s one of the three elephants living on site.
