6 Injured In Shooting At South Carolina Beach During High School Senior Skip Day

Six people were caught in the crossfire of a shooting at a beach in Isle of Palms, South Carolina after multiple fights broke out between high school seniors who were reportedly participating in senior skip day, CNN reported. 

Gunshots broke out Friday at around 5:20 p.m. ET in the coastal city of Isle of Palms, Police Chief Kevin Cornett said during a news conference. Hundreds of people including several high school students were on the beach at the time of the shooting. According to police, seniors from multiple high schools were taking part in senior skip day when several fights ensued. Shots were fired and five individuals were hit. 

Cornett said,

“Five of those injured were around the age of 18.”

“One adult woman in her mid-30s or early 40s was also wounded,”

Cornett added. Those who were injured were transported to the hospital, where they suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were released the following day, reports note. 

Two suspects, ages 16 and 18 were taken into custody and charged with unlawful carry of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm, the release stated. Police continue to investigate, police chief Cornett told the outlet.
