On Thursday, an 8-year-old boy in Brooklyn was found with a gun in his backpack at school. The day before, he had threatened another student with the same firearm. The unloaded firearm was discovered during a search at around 10:30 a.m. at P.S. 158 – The Warwick Community School in East New York, per the New York Post.
According to sources, on Wednesday, the boy had threatened another student with the firearm. The student who was threatened informed their mother, who then reported the encounter to the school. School officials later performed a backpack search based on the report.
It is currently unclear if anyone will be charged regarding the weapon. Reports added that the school doesn’t have metal detectors. The sources mentioned that letters will be sent to inform families about the incident.
“Guns have absolutely no place in the hands of our young people, and this incident is a deeply concerning example of the consequences of the proliferation of guns in our society and in our city,”
said Jenna Lyle, the city Department of Education spokeswoman.
