Sadly, a 9-year-old boy from the Bronx was fatally shot during a robbery gone wrong in the Dominican Republic. According to the New York Post, a friend of the boy’s dad was apprehended.

Gioser Luís Feliz was fatally shot in the head after the vehicle he rode in was invaded by multiple robbers after the boy and his father, Sergio Luis Feliz, left  Santiago’s Cibao International Airport. The incident occurred on Wednesday. The father and son were coming from New York and headed to a family member’s home when the incident happened, according to Univision.

Reports say that six men were apprehended for the shooting, which included 32-year-old Tomás Peña Morel. Sources informed Diario Libre that Tomacito was a friend of the boy’s father, as he was likely to know the family’s travel schedule and route. The suspects rented a car and reportedly trailed the father and son from the airport and began to shoot when the family’s driver declined to pull over after going through a toll.

The young boy was transported to a local hospital, where he later passed away. The suspects fled the scene; however, were located less than 24 hours after. Officials said the suspects confessed to the shooting, yet, it’s unclear if the shooting was a target or random.
