The incident was reported to the DeLand Police Department when the suspect, identified as 46-year-old Travis McBride, was seen cleaning up blood in a front yard. McBride reportedly had a dispute with the victim, 51-year-old Clinton Dorsey, and later confessed to the crime.

Police found evidence at the scene, including a spent shell casing and

“droplets of blood.”

McBride allegedly visited a witness’s house the night of the shooting, claiming that Dorsey had

“put glass in a jar for [McBride’s] dogs”

to harm them. McBride reportedly made threats to harm Dorsey, described as a homeless individual residing in the wooded area opposite the witness’s residence.

The witness told detectives that the shooting occurred around 10 p.m., and she heard eight to nine shots being fired. The next morning, McBride threatened her not to contact the police.

Investigators followed a potential lead of

“bloody clothing”

in a nearby dumpster but did not find it. They did, however, find a 9mm round matching the shell casing. McBride’s car, a red Nissan Versa hatchback, contained a bucket, a backpack, a blanket, and a body.

McBride, who owns Starting Point Mental Health, LLC, specializing in anger management, addictions, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and other areas, has now been charged with first-degree murder and is currently in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
