    A Seattle mother is accused of murdering her teenage son, after beating him to death with an extension cord, per PEOPLE. Authorities claim that Denaya Young struck her son because she thought he had not finished his chores, according to reports from KIRO, King 5, and the Seattle Times, referencing a police affidavit.

    Reports indicate that the medical examiner found the 14-year-old boy had sustained 1,172 injuries from the beating before he died on January 30. The medical examiner suggests that the cause of death was Sudden Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS). SIRS occurs when the body sends excessive blood to various injuries, overwhelming the heart, as noted in the reports.

    According to KIRO and the Times, referencing the affidavit, Young reportedly told police that she

    “lost count”

    of the number of times she struck her son. During the alleged deadly assault, authorities state that the teen’s three siblings were present in the home, as reported by KIRO. Young faces charges of second-degree murder related to her son’s death.

    A jilted lover, angry about her ex-boyfriend’s alleged

    “multiple relationships”

    with both her and another woman, reportedly became violent after she ran him over with her Range Rover in Florida, per Law & Crime. 

    The suspect, Yoshabelle Edouard, 19 is also accused of throwing eggs at the victim’s car and covering it in ketchup and mustard. She is now facing charges of aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm. According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, deputies from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office spoke with the victim, 20-year-old Kervens S. Saintil, on Friday. 

    He admitted to being involved in

    “multiple relationships”

    with Edouard and another woman. Earlier that day, Saintil had accused Edouard of vandalizing his car with eggs and condiments. Later on, Saintil, along with his other girlfriend and a few friends, was strolling around his apartment complex in Punta Gorda when they spotted Edouard driving her white Range Rover. According to police, she took a sharp turn and headed straight for Saintil. 

    He attempted to dodge the vehicle, but Edouard allegedly struck him. He said he bounced off the front of the car and crashed onto the windshield, which shattered upon impact. According to law enforcement, Saintil sustained several lacerations on his right side, including his arm, shoulder, and hip. He told the TV station he witnessed Edouard,

    “flying over the speed bumps”

    toward him.

    “Before you know it, I’m seeing black and I’m on the floor,”

    he said.

    “My body literally flew in the air.” 

    In an interview with detectives, Edouard expressed that she got upset after overhearing Saintil and the other woman talking about her, as stated in the affidavit. Edouard claimed that her ex was

    “full of energy”

    and that he

    “jumped onto her vehicle”

    while she was driving past. Police arrested her and took her to the Charlotte County Jail. She has since been released on bond and has a court appearance set for March 10.

    New York Judge Steps Down After Claiming He Believes All Defendants Are Guilty

    A judge from upstate New York has resigned after attempting to avoid jury duty by declaring that he couldn’t remain impartial, as he believed that anyone appearing in court was guilty. 

    Richard T Snyder, who had served as a justice in the Petersburgh Town Court for roughly ten years, resigned following allegations of misconduct from a state judicial commission, as reported by officials on Tuesday, per Huff Post. Court transcripts reveal that Snyder tried to escape jury duty in 2023 by initially introducing himself as a judge and then stating,

    “I know everybody come in front of me. I know they are guilty. They would not be in front of me.”

    Snyder was dismissed from jury duty. He reportedly insisted that he could not remain unbiased. Snyder said,

    “No. It would not be fair,”

    Court records from a special grand jury in Rensselaer County show. The judge managing the jury selection informed state officials about Snyder’s comments. He later acknowledged the principle that defendants are deemed innocent until proven guilty during a judicial commission hearing the next year. However, he maintained his belief that individuals wouldn’t be in court if they hadn’t committed any crimes.

    “I meant, that they were guilty because they did something wrong. But they’re not guilty ’til they come to court. They’re innocent ’til proven guilty,”

    he told the commission.

    “They did something wrong. That’s why they got a ticket. But they’re not guilty,”

    he added.

    Robert H. Tembeckjian, who oversees the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct, addressed the comment made by the former judge stating that,

    “there is no place on the bench for someone who so deeply misunderstands the role of a judge and the administration of justice.”

    Courts in New York do not offer automatic jury duty exemptions to anyone, including judges.

    A school bus driver from upstate New York was arrested for allegedly making a stop at a gun shop during his shift and purchasing a rifle, as reported by the NY Post. He then brought the firearm with him while transporting a bus full of children, as stated by police.

    David Ferry, 57, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon on school property on Monday. Following this incident, he was fired from his position, according to a statement from troopers. The investigation was prompted when witnesses reportedly saw the bus leaving the gun shop.

    “Troopers received a complaint-in-progress that Ferry had just purchased a .22 caliber rifle and was observed driving away in a Naples school bus upon leaving the retail store,”

    the release said.

    “Ontario County Sheriff’s Office Deputies found the bus on State Route 247 in the town of Gorham and conducted a traffic stop upon request of the state police. Deputies and troopers discovered the bus was occupied by 12 students.”

    Authorities reported that the firearm was unloaded. They do not believe Ferry had any intention of using it at a school-related event.

    “There is no indication that Ferry purchased the rifle with the intent of carrying out school violence, and there are no credible threats to Naples Central School, its students, or staff,”

    the release said. Ferry has been released and has a court date scheduled for February 18.

    Florida Son Reports Father To Police After Discovering Nearly 1,000 Files Of Child Porn While Repairing His Phone

    A Florida man reported his perverted father to the police after he reportedly discovered close to 1,000 files of child pornography on his dad’s phone, as reported by the NY Post. The son was reportedly trying to fix his locked Google account, which was disabled due to the abhorrent content. 

    The Kenneth City Police Department arrested 63-year-old Gene Follin. Follin allegedly admitted to authorities that he was aware he possessed the images. Which included child erotica, on January 28, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Smoking Gun. Follin’s son, Jared, alerted the police to the findings on his father’s phone on September 10, 2024.

    According to the document, the elder Follin had asked his son for help with accessing his Gmail account after being informed that it was disabled due to

    “sexual, explicit images of children.”

    A month later, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children task force after a Google account was flagged for uploading child pornography to its Google Photos folder.

    A detective from the sheriff’s office informed the Kenneth City Police Department about the alert. This led to a subpoena for the IP address, ultimately confirming that Gene Follin was the account user. The detective then obtained a search warrant for Follin’s Google account. They received photos that had been uploaded to the account between March 13, 2023, and September 10, 2024.

    The arresting officer received a secure USB drive that reportedly held 952 files of the disturbing content. One graphic image mentioned in the affidavit depicted five girls aged between 5 and 8. Follin, originally from Missouri, was charged with 20 counts of possession of child pornography, all classified as second-degree felonies, per jail records accessed by The Post. He was booked with a bond set at $100,000 but was released on a surety bond on January 30. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison.

    New York Doctor Charged For Prescribing Abortion Pill In Louisiana, Reports Say

    A doctor from New York was charged by a Louisiana grand jury on Friday for reportedly prescribing an abortion pill online. The doctor reportedly issued the pill to a patient in a Deep South state that enforces one of the strictest near-total abortion bans in the U.S., per CBS News. 

    The grand jurors at the District Court for the Parish of West Baton Rouge handed down an indictment against Dr. Margaret Carpenter, her practice, Nightingale Medical, PC, and another individual. All three face felony charges of criminal abortion related to the use of abortion-inducing medications. Prosecutors in Louisiana allege that a mother purchased the pill online and administered it to her child.

    “The young child was told by the mother that she had to take the pill or else, and the child took the pill,”

    District Attorney Tony Clayton said.

    This case seems to mark the first occurrence of criminal charges against a doctor accused of sending abortion pills to another state. Particularly since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, which allowed states to implement strict anti-abortion laws.

    “To ship a pill from another state is equivalent to me of shipping fentanyl or any other type of drugs over here that end up in the mouths and stomachs of our minor kids,”

    Clayton said. In December, Carpenter faced a lawsuit from the Texas attorney general on similar allegations of distributing pills to that state. However, this case did not include any criminal charges.

    The indictment might serve as the first direct test of New York’s shield laws, which aim to protect prescribers who utilize telehealth to supply abortion pills to patients in states that have banned the procedure. In 2023, Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation that shields doctors from lawsuits filed in other states.

    “I will never under any circumstances turn this doctor over to the state of Louisiana under any extradition request,”

    Hochul said in a video posted to social media.

    “I will do everything I can to protect this doctor and allow her to continue the work that she’s doing that is so essential.”

    Desiree Perez, CEO of Roc Nation, is explaining the decision behind selecting Kendrick Lamar as the headliner for the Super Bowl Halftime show. She dismissed suggestions that the choice was intended to undermine Lil Wayne, emphasizing that it was more about reflecting

    “the pulse of the times.” 

    In a recent interview with NOLA.com, she elaborated on the reasons for choosing Lamar, despite his lack of ties to New Orleans. She told the outlet,

    “New Orleans is so rich in culture. We have to take into consideration (that) whoever is going to perform can speak to music culture, regardless of age. It has to nod to real music, regardless of the genre. And Kendrick does that. Kendrick’s richness and culture is really a nod to New Orleans.”

    Perez noted that Lil Wayne was indeed considered for the role. She even expressed compassion for the legendary New Orleans rapper when she found out he was disheartened by not being selected.

    “Aww…I actually didn’t know he had said that. We love that everybody wants to be on the stage, that we’ve completely changed the conversation to fighting for it versus boycotting. We’ve come a long way.”

    Wayne also revealed in a December interview that he spoke to Kendrick Lamar and resolved any issues that existed between them.

    “I’ve spoken to him and I wished him all the best and told him he better kill it. He gotta kill it,”

    he said. 

    According to Perez, the Super Bowl made a lot of changes since Roc Nation joined forces with the NFL. She pointed out that a shift happened after the 2019 Super Bowl in Atlanta.

    “The goal was to get the halftime show to be something that artists are excited to perform at,”

    she said.

    “How do we make this about the music and the moment, and not about everything else that’s going on around it.”

    Minneapolis Agrees To Pay $600,000 To Settle with Woman Who Claims Former Officer Derek Chauvin Knelt On Her Neck

    The city of Minneapolis has reached an agreement to pay $600,000 to settle a lawsuit from a woman who claimed that former Officer Derek Chauvin used excessive force on her, per ABC News. 

    Patty Day, formerly employed by the Public Works Department, accused Chauvin of forcibly removing her from her minivan and pinning her to the ground with his knee in January 2020. Similar to the actions he took four months later when he fatally restrained George Floyd. In a lawsuit filed last May, she claimed that she was subjected to excessive force and wrongfully arrested. 

    She admitted that she was intoxicated on the night of January 17, 2020, and was feeling depressed about her impending divorce and other challenges when she became stuck in the snow for several hours. Eventually, Chauvin and his partner that night, Officer Ellen Jensen, arrived at the scene. The lawsuit alleged that the officers

    “violently yanked”

    Day from her vehicle and threw her to the ground, resulting in multiple injuries.

    “Chauvin then assumed his signature pose, pressing his knee into the subdued and handcuffed Patty’s back — just as he would later do to snuff the life out of George Floyd — and remaining that way well after Patty was controlled,”

    the complaint alleged. A charge of driving under the influence was later dismissed after a judge determined that the officers did not have probable cause for her arrest and excluded the blood alcohol test evidence. 

    On Thursday, the Minneapolis City Council unanimously approved the $600,000 settlement. Council member LaTrisha Vetaw informed her colleagues that $175,000 will be awarded to Day, while her attorneys will receive $425,000. The city has now paid more than $36 million to settle police misconduct cases involving Chauvin, which includes $27 million awarded to the Floyd family. Chauvin is currently serving time in a federal prison in Texas for his state court conviction of murdering Floyd.

    A Florida man has been taken into custody after reportedly stealing a woman’s purse, which contained a one-month-old kitten, per Too Fab. 

    As stated in a press release from the Fort Myers Police Department on Friday, the suspect is identified as 34-year-old Benjamin Cummings. 

    He is accused of robbing a woman and taking her bag, which included various personal items along with a kitten that was

    “approximately”

    one month old. Cummings was charged with one count of robbery without the use of a firearm or any other weapon, according to jail records from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. He is identified as a

    “transient,”

    according to jail records. 

    Police reported that the robbery took place on Thursday morning, and detectives were ultimately able to track down Cummings by reviewing surveillance footage that revealed his last known location, as mentioned in the press release.

    “[Detectives] were able to respond to the location where the suspect was last seen, discovering the victims’ belongings inside an abandoned vehicle,”

    police said, before confirming that the kitten was found.

    “While investigating the items, the stolen kitten emerged from underneath the vehicle and approached Officers,”

    the press release stated. In addition to the statement shared on Facebook, the Fort Myers Police Department posted a mugshot of Cummings alongside a photo of the black-and-white kitten. 

    Lee County Sheriff’s Office jail records indicate that Cummings has a criminal history dating back to 2005, with more than a dozen mugshots on file. He is currently in custody, and his bail has been set at $10,000.

    A 31-year-old woman from Missouri is in custody for allegedly shooting three people across two states, resulting in two fatalities, according to police reports to the Kansas City Star. 

    Taylor Santiago, from Aurora, reportedly decided to kill her estranged husband, Troy Huffman, along with her ex and his girlfriend while she was out getting coffee at a Casey’s General Store on January 22. Investigators stated that she invited Huffman to her home

    “under the pretenses of seeing a child.”

    The two share a 12-year-old son. Upon his arrival, Santiago instructed the boy to cover his ears, claiming

    “she was going to take care of the bad guys,”

    as detailed in a probable cause affidavit.

    After leaving the boy’s room, she shot Huffman with a revolver, as stated in the affidavit. When he didn’t fall after the first shot, she fired again about a second later. Investigators reported that Huffman collapsed by the door, and Santiago dragged him out of the way before taking his keys and stealing his car, reports note. She then drove approximately 50 miles southeast to Carroll County, Arkansas, intending to kill two others.

    According to Aurora police, Santiago shot her ex and his girlfriend. Her child was present at the home during the incident however, he was unharmed. The girlfriend died, while the ex was critically injured and taken to the hospital. Santiago returned to Aurora and surrendered to police, admitting to shooting three people, as detailed in the affidavit. Police Chief Wes Coatney indicated that the killings were likely driven by child custody disputes with her estranged husband and her ex.

    “The Aurora-Marionville Police Department is actively working with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas to assist with their investigation into the homicide reported in that jurisdiction,”

    police said. Santiago was arrested and taken to the Lawrence County Jail on January 23. She faces charges including murder, robbery, unlawful use of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of children, records show.
