Long Island Corrections Officer Steals $110K In Payments Intended For Wife’s Back Surgery, DA Says

Authorities report that a corrections officer from Long Island embezzled $110,096 in insurance checks meant for his estranged wife’s back surgery, per the NY Post

Christopher Kowalewski, 49, of Merrick,  allegedly took 11 reimbursement checks from her New York State Empire Plan. It reportedly ranged in amounts from $92,488 to $147, for her March 2022 procedure. Kowalewski allegedly used the money for personal expenses, according to Nassau District Attorney Anne Donnelly.

Kowalewski is said to have cashed two of the checks and deposited the other nine into a joint bank account he held with an unnamed individual. The accused’s plan initially succeeded because he was the policyholder for his wife’s medical account, allowing the out-of-network checks to be issued in his name. United Healthcare, which manages the Empire Plan, distributed the funds from December 2021 to December 2023.

“Public servants are entrusted with doing the right thing, and when they take advantage of the system for personal gain, it hurts everyone,”

Donnelly said in her statement. On Monday, the defendant was charged with second-degree grand larceny and could face a maximum of 15 years in prison.

Teacher Sexually Assaulted Special Needs Student and Told Him To Bring A Gun To School To Shoot Colleague

A former paraprofessional from Colorado is now incarcerated after confessing to sexually assaulting a 16-year-old student, according to PEOPLE. In November, Imagine Kay Ewer, 28, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a special education student. She received a four-year prison sentence.

She was responsible for the care of this student at Brady Exploration School in Lakewood, as stated by the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office. As part of a plea deal with prosecutors, Ewer admitted to charges of sexual assault on a child by someone in a position of trust and contributing to the delinquency of a minor in the first degree, both of which are felonies. Following her four-year sentence, she will also be subjected to probation under the Sex Offender Intensive Supervision program for a period of ten years to life.

At the sentencing on Friday, January 31, the mother of the victim addressed to the court, stating,

“The defendant preyed on my son, leading him to believe she genuinely cared for him, all while exploiting him for money and manipulating him into thinking he was ‘the one,’”

according to the statement. In court, Special Victims Prosecutor Brynn Chase stated that Ewer introduced the victim to fentanyl, as mentioned in the statement. Ewer even told the victim

“to bring [a] gun to school and shoot another faculty member in the leg,”

Police launched an investigation to which they  found

“evidence of frequent sexual encounters, constant digital communication, inclusive of repeated derogatory remarks directed at the victim, and the introduction of drugs, alcohol, and weapons,”

it said. Ewer was employed by Jefferson County Public Schools from 2015 until 2023. She was arrested in January 2024. She is  charged with sexual assault on a child by someone in a position of trust; sexual exploitation of a child; unlawful electronic sexual communication; and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, online court records show.

California Teen Sentenced To 4 Years In Prison For Making Hundreds Of ‘Swatting’ Calls

A California teenager was sentenced to four years in prison on Tuesday for his role in numerous swatting calls, per Huff Post.

Alan W. Filion, 18, was found guilty of making 375 swatting calls. Filion targeted a mosque in Florida, among other places and individuals, as stated by federal prosecutors.

He pleaded guilty in November to four counts of making interstate threats to harm others. Swatting involves making a false emergency call to provoke a significant police response at a specific location as a

The U.S. Attorney’s Office reported that Filion made threatening calls from August 2022 to January 2024.

These calls included claims of having planted bombs at various locations and threats to detonate them or carry out mass shootings, prosecutors stated. His targets included religious institutions, high schools, colleges and universities, government officials, and individuals across the country. At the time he made most of these calls, Filion was just 16 years old.

As part of a plea deal, he acknowledged making a threatening call in October 2022 to a public high school in Washington state. He had threatened a mass shooting and claimed to have planted bombs across the campus. He also pleaded guilty to a call made in May 2023 to a historically black college and university in Florida.

    requesting the Bianca Censori physique.

“This week alone has been like a 50% uptick in just phone calls and a lot of that attention has been specifically towards just this one incident from the Grammys.”

Dr. Costa also noted that in 2025, many women are gravitating towards a more natural look, with Bianca being the perfect example.

“Her body is a really nice balance of very voluptuous, very curvy but at the same time, she looks natural. She doesn’t look necessarily over the top… she just looks good,”

The plastic surgeon even highlighted that the rapper’s ex-wife, the former poster girl for body goals, Kim Kardashian, has also embraced a more natural look.

“Even Kim Kardashian has become a little more natural, a little bit more subtle. It’s not as exaggerated maybe as it was when she had a champagne glass on her rear.”

Elder Woman Runs Over Tourist’s Head With Her Truck While She Was Sunbathing On Florida Beach

Authorities are investigating an incident in Florida where an 84-year-old woman

    “ran over”

a beachgoer’s head with her truck, as reported by PEOPLE

A press release from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office stated that a 71-year-old woman from New York was sunbathing in a beach chair near her vehicle close to the Silver Beach Avenue beach ramp. This occurred just before 3 p.m. local time on Wednesday, February 5, during her visit to Daytona Beach with her husband.

While the tourist was seated in her chair, the elderly driver from DeLeon Springs backed her Chevrolet Colorado out of the parking space. She made

“an immediate right turn toward the beach exit, did not see the woman in her chair, and struck her with the truck’s right rear tire, which then ran over her head,”

    the Sheriff’s Office said.

The 71-year-old woman’s husband contacted 911, as revealed by audio from the emergency call obtained by NBC affiliate WESH 2. “Hurry up! She ran over her head!” the woman’s husband can be heard saying.

    “You alright?”

he asks his wife, who replies:

    “No.”

The victim was taken to the nearby Halifax Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening head injuries and is in stable condition.

“The driver… remained on scene and cooperated fully with the investigation. She said she was not aware she struck anyone until she was chased down by a witness,”

    deputies said.

“There were no signs of impairment.”

The city of Daytona Beach states that

    “beach driving”

is permitted on Silver Beach, making it one of the few beaches in the U.S. where visitors can drive right onto the sand.

Woman Refuses To Refund $600 To Friend Who Faked ‘Family Emergency’ So She Could Skip Ski Trip For Vacation With Boyfriend

A woman has turned to social media users for advice after she refused to refund her friend $600, claiming that her friend abandoned their group trip to be with her boyfriend and later discovered she had lied about the reason for her absence.

    In a post on Reddit’s

    “Am I the A——”

forum on February 5, the woman noted how her 19-year-old friend backed out of their 12-day group ski trip, due to a

    “family emergency.”

However, the group later learned that she had actually gone on a beach vacation with her boyfriend instead. As a result, the woman is now unwilling to refund the friend $600 for her share of the group’s Airbnb rental, as reported by PEOPLE

“In my friend group, we have a girl, let’s call her Sarah. Sarah comes from a comfortable family and was even one of the people who suggested the trip and was one of the leading forces to finding the Airbnb,”

she wrote. On the Thursday leading up to the Saturday trip, she mentioned that Sarah sent a text to the group with some bad news.

“She texted the group chat saying how she couldn’t go because she had a family emergency — said her grandma had gotten admitted to the hospital,”

    the original poster [OP] wrote.

“We were obviously bummed but family comes first and I told her that I would send her the money back.”

During the ski trip, one of the woman’s friends checked a location-safety app and discovered that Sarah’s location was not at home but in a

    “beach town.”

“We spend that night pissed and we call her out the next day where she admits everything. She had been last-minute invited on her boyfriend’s vacation and decided that she wanted to go to that instead but didn’t know how to tell us.”

“At the end of the day she’s a 19-year-old girl so I guess it’s just immaturity,”

    she said.

“After finding out that she wouldn’t be getting that [$600] back she went insane and started calling me a bad friend and everything.”

  • Minnesota Man Wins Complimentary Norwegian Cruise Vacation, Then Contracts Flu Onboard and Receives $47K Medical Bill

Minnesota Man Wins Complimentary Norwegian Cruise Vacation, Then Contracts Flu Onboard and Receives $47K Medical Bill

A Minnesota man won a free weeklong cruise to the Caribbean for himself and his girlfriend. Unfortunately, he fell ill with the flu on board and was hit with a $47,000 medical bill.

Mike Cameron and his girlfriend, Tamra Masterman, won a complimentary Norwegian cruise from the Grand Casino Hinckley. The cruise departed from Miami on January 5, he shared with The Post. However, what began as a dream vacation quickly turned sour when Cameron contracted the flu.

The sick passenger sought care at the medical center on the Norwegian Encore ship and recovered after three days. As the couple’s Caribbean tour wrapped up, Cameron was stunned to discover he was responsible for the $47,000 medical bill. This unexpected charge came as a shock since crew members had reassured him not to worry while he was receiving treatment.

“I was just flabbergasted by the whole thing,”

    he told Fox 9 News.

“One lady in the medical ward that said that he had the traveler’s insurance and that meant $20,000 of coverage,”

he recalled. The cruise line maxed out two of Cameron’s credit cards, leaving him with an outstanding balance of $21,000. The couple had obtained travel insurance from the cruise line that covers up to $20,000 in expenses, and they also have health insurance.

However, Cameron finds himself in a limbo, with both parties insisting that the other is liable for the bill, he told Fox 9.

“The traveler’s insurance doesn’t want to pay it until we run it by our health insurance. The health insurance doesn’t want to pay it because it’s abroad,”

he explained.  After his experience, Cameron has one important piece of advice for travelers.

“We want people to be aware, if you go on a cruise make sure you got good traveler’s insurance,”

    he cautioned.

“Once you are out on international waters, it’s a whole different story.”

Mother Arrested For Allegedly Faking Daughter’s Abduction and Taking ‘Missing’ Child To Alley To Be Found

    A

    “frantic”

mother residing in Illinois contacted 911 to report that her car had been stolen with her 4-year-old daughter inside, per Law & Crime. Princess Ilunga, 37, reportedly made the emergency call around 6 a.m. on January 26. Authorities issued an Amber Alert for the missing child, prompting a desperate 9-hour search.

However, it was later revealed that the girl had been at home the whole time. Ilunga is now facing charges for filing a false report to police. According to police in Rock Island, the woman told a 911 operator that she had left her car running in front of her house. She said she left her daughter in the back seat, and when she returned, the vehicle was gone.

Authorities responded quickly and found the car, unoccupied, just a few blocks away about 15 minutes later. The Rock Island Police Department promptly shared the girl’s photo in a post that garnered over 40,000 shares. Illinois State Police issued a statewide Amber Alert. They located the girl in an alley close to her home shortly before 3 p.m. on the day she was reported missing.

He noted that Ilunga claimed the girl was another daughter and instructed her other children to refer to her by her Swahili name. According to the police chief, Ilunga pointed at the girl, saying she
