    Republican Rep. Rich McCormick Advises High School Students Receiving Free Lunch To Get A Job Instead Of ‘Sponging Off The Government’

    Rep. Rich McCormick (R-Ga.), who supports the White House‘s freeze on federal aid that could affect school lunch programs, suggested in a CNN interview that children could get fast food jobs to cover their lunch costs. He spoke about President Trump’s recent executive order to pause federal grants for review and prioritization. 

    The White House Office of Management and Budget issued a memo on Monday to temporarily halt all federal financial assistance activities. This freeze was set to start Tuesday at 5 p.m. ET, but U.S. District Judge Loren L. AliKhan blocked the action just before it was to take effect, with the new deadline set for February 3.

    In an interview prior to the judge’s ruling, CNN anchor Pamela Brown highlighted that the Head Start program, which aids low-income families with food insecurities, might be impacted by the freeze. McCormick’s respondedby saying,

    “Before I was even 13 years old, I was picking berries in the field before (the) child labor laws that precluded that. I was a paper boy, and when I was in high school, I worked my entire way through,”

    McCormick told Brown.

    McCormick stated that the pause on federal funds will enable the government to

    “see where is the money really being spent.”

    McCormick said during the interview,

    “Who can actually go and actually produce their own income? Who can actually go out there and do something that makes them have value and work skills for the future?” 

    The congressman expanded on his child labor comments saying,

    “How many people got their start in fast-food restaurants when they were kids, versus just giving a blanket rule that gives all kids lunches in high school who are capable of going out and actually getting a job…”

    He went on to say that children should be

    “thinking about their future instead of thinking about how they’re going to sponge out the government when they don’t need to.”

    Dallas Police Sergeant Charged With Stealing Department-Issued Firearms and Pawning Them In Oklahoma

    A former Dallas police sergeant has been indicted on federal gun charges for allegedly selling stolen department-issued firearms, USA Today. Thomas Michael Fry, 52, was officially charged last Wednesday with three counts of possession and sale of a stolen firearm.

    “Police officers have a sacred duty to uphold the rule of law. Instead, this sergeant betrayed his department – and his community – by allegedly pawning stolen firearms,”

    said Chad Meacham, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas.

    “The U.S. Attorney’s Office will not hesitate to pursue charges against law enforcement officers who fail to live up to their oaths.”

    The Dallas Police Department began investigating Fry in October 2022. Investigators discovered that the sergeant had stolen at least three 9mm Sig Sauer pistols from a substation between August 2021 and July 2022 while assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division. He then pawned the stolen firearms at a pawnshop in Oklahoma, according to federal authorities. 

    Fry was first arrested in April 2024 after he turned himself into the Mesquite Police Department on three counts of firearm theft, a state jail felony. In July 2024, he was arrested again by the Royse City Police Department on a separate felony theft charge. During the internal affairs investigation, he was placed on administrative leave.

    While under investigation, Fry resigned in August, as confirmed by a police spokesperson to FOX 4. If found guilty, Fry could face up to 30 years in federal prison.

    Jan. 6 Insurrectionist Pardoned By Trump Continues To Face Charges In Child Sex Abuse Case, Reports Say

    A North Carolina man pardoned by President Donald Trump for assaulting a police officer during the January 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection is still facing charges for possessing child sex abuse material, per Huff Post.

    David Paul Daniel, 37, pleaded guilty this month to pushing a heavy wooden barricade into officers at the Capitol. Following the initial breach, he led a second breach into the Senate Wing Door before fleeing through a broken window. He was one of 600 individuals charged with resisting or assaulting law enforcement. All of whom received pardons from Trump on his first day in office.

    Agents identified Daniel by reviewing his public social media accounts. He posted photos of himself in clothing that matched what he wore at the Capitol, according to the complaint. The FBI investigation revealed that Daniel was already under investigation in Charlotte, North Carolina, for child exploitation.

    Daniel Gets Busted For Child Sexual Abuse

    The Mint Hill Police Department informed federal investigators that from 2015 to 2019, Daniel had allegedly sexually assaulted a minor multiple times. He allegedly showered with a minor, took nude photos of her, and instructed her to take nude photos. Daniel denied any inappropriate behavior. He told detectives he doesn’t recall showering with her, according to a 2021 interview referenced in the application.

    On November 30, 2023, FBI agents and Mint Hill police searched Daniel’s home. They seized devices that allegedly contained sexually explicit images of a minor.

    He was indicted in October 2024 on federal charges of production of child pornography and possession of child pornography. He pleaded not guilty. In December 2024, he was moved to federal custody in Washington, D.C., for his Capitol riot case. After pleading guilty to assaulting a police officer at the Capitol on January 8, he was pardoned by Trump. He remains in custody as the child abuse case is pending.

    An Atlanta man had a medical emergency and died after confronting a suspected burglar trying to break into his car, according to PEOPLE. Tasha Brown told Fox 5 Atlanta that her husband, Javon Brown, had a heart attack during the confrontation.

    The Atlanta Police Department stated that they responded to the incident, which happened on January 17 at 4:35 a.m. When they arrived, they found the victim dead in his doorway, with no visible injuries.

    “Preliminary Investigation indicates unknown suspects were attempting to break into the victim’s vehicle,”

    police said.

    “The victim confronted the suspects. The armed suspect(s) discharged a firearm towards the victim; however, the victim was not struck by gunfire.”

    Police said it seemed that Brown died after the incident caused a medical emergency. Tasha Brown remembered her husband’s car alarm going off around 4:30. She heard some noise and looked out the window to see someone trying to break into his truck. Tasha said Javon took his gun and went outside to scare off the suspected burglars.

    Neighbors also told the outlet that several shots were fired. Tasha said her husband was not hit by any bullets, and the suspects ran away.

    “He was able to speak,”

    she told Fox 5.

    “He was not hit. But then he went into cardiac arrest over the shock. He dropped down. I did CPR. I called 911 until I couldn’t feel my arms and hands, but it wasn’t enough.”

    Police have not confirmed whether they have identified the suspects yet.

    A female police officer is facing termination after accidentally shooting a man with his own gun during a traffic stop in Florida, according to TMZ.

    Body camera footage shows Jason Arrington cooperating with the officers on the scene. In the video released by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, he calmly informs an officer that he has a gun on him. Arrington was stopped for running a red light. As he gets out of his SUV, two officers search him. That’s when Officer Mindy Cardwell takes the gun from his waistband, and it unexpectedly goes off.

    There was immediate chaos as another officer told Cardwell to drop the gun. He then helped the injured Arrington to a grassy area. Blood was soaking through Arrington’s pants because the bullet had gone through his upper thigh. This caused a serious arterial bleed, reports note. The officers were able to stop the bleeding quickly with a tourniquet.

    Arrington is expected to make a full recovery. He is now suing over the incident from December. He claims he has lasting injuries that affect his job as a crane operator. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said an internal investigation found Cardwell was incompetent. She is in the process of being fired.

    Officials determined that she had trouble pulling Arrington’s gun from its holster and accidentally placed her fingers inside the trigger guard, which caused the gun to fire. In the state of Florida, residents are legally allowed to have a concealed weapon without a permit.

    Flavor Flav Launches Fundraiser To Assist Black Families Affected by L.A. Wildfires, ‘Not Enough Is Being Done’

    Flavor Flav is working to help Black families in Los Angeles who were impacted by the devastating wildfires.

    On Monday, January 20, the 65-year-old rapper announced that he is teaming up with GoFundMe and the Black Music Action Coalition to provide immediate assistance to Black families affected by the Eaton Fire in the Altadena and Pasadena areas of L.A.

    “So many of y’all have helped in the aftermath of the L.A. fires…so many of y’all have received help. But there’s SO MANY more that REALLY need your help,”

    he captioned the Instagram video.

    “It’s been inspiring to see so many people come together as one to lift each other up, and I just want to highlight one aspect of the larger LA community in dire need.”

    “Not enough is being done for the Black families and community in the aftermath of the California fires,”

    the Public Enemy member added.

    “I urge not only Black artists and musicians and creators, but EVERYONE to come together and continue to help those in still in desperate need.”

    The GoFundMe campaign has raised almost $40,000 so far and aims to strengthen

    “the collective efforts to generate funds in support of Black families as they navigate displacement, loss of income, grief [and] essential needs in the short-term as they seek to rebuild.”

    The fundraiser is getting its recipients from a combined list called the Displaced Black Families GoFundMe Directory, which was put together by Community Aid Dena, AFROPUNK, and WalkGood LA.

    22 States File Lawsuit To Stop Trump’s Order Ending Birthright Citizenship

    Attorneys general from 22 states filed a lawsuit on Tuesday to block President Donald Trump‘s plan to end birthright citizenship, which has been in place for over a century, according to AP News.

    Birthright citizenship means that children born in the U.S. are citizens, no matter their parents’ immigration status. This practice was established after the Civil War when Congress approved the 14th Amendment in July 1868, guaranteeing citizenship for everyone, including Black people.

    “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside,”

    the 14th Amendment says.

    “No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States.” 

    Trump’s executive order, which is about 700 words long and was issued late Monday, challenges this amendment. This move is something he has discussed during his presidential campaign. It hints at a long legal battle over the president’s immigration policies and the right to citizenship.

    “The president cannot, with a stroke of a pen, write the 14th Amendment out of existence, period,”

    New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin said. 

    The White House said it is prepared to go to court against the states and referred to the lawsuits as

    “nothing more than an extension of the Left’s resistance.”

    White House Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields said,

    “Radical Leftists can either choose to swim against the tide and reject the overwhelming will of the people, or they can get on board and work with President Trump.”

    Jackie Johnson, the former District Attorney for the Brunswick Judicial Circuit, is facing charges of breaching her oath of office and obstructing a police officer, per NPR News

    Ahmaud Arbery was shot on February 23. Just over an hour after his son killed Arbery with a shotgun during a pursuit through their neighborhood, Greg McMichael reached out for assistance to his previous employer. The chief state prosecutor of the area. It wasn’t until May 5, when a disturbing cell phone video of the incident, filmed by Bryan, was made public, that any arrests were made.

    State prosecutors allege that Johnson attempted to protect the McMichaels from being arrested. Greg McMichael had previously been an investigator in her office and had also served as a police officer.

    Ahmaud Arbery’s Family Demands Justice

    The family of Arbery is eager to see this corruption case brought to trial.

    “To get 100% justice for Ahmaud,”

    his father, Marcus Arbery states. He emphasizes that holding the former prosecutor accountable is just as crucial as convicting the killers. He also stated that elected officials are meant to serve all citizens fairly.

    Johnson, a white woman, held the position of local District Attorney for a decade. She has denied any interference and claims she promptly recused herself from the Arbery case. In May 2020, she was questioned on a local radio show. When asked about the accusations that she advised the police against arresting the McMichaels, her response was

    “That’s so far from the truth, it’s just a straight up lie,”

    Johnson said on WIFO’s Butch and Bob show.

    The Georgia Attorney General’s office is anticipated to present various evidence at Johnson’s trial. This includes records of approximately 16 calls exchanged between Greg McMichael’s phone and Johnson’s in the days and weeks following Arbery’s death. 

    The prosecution of Johnson’s case will be handled by the Georgia Attorney General’s office, with jury selection scheduled to begin on Monday.

The woman, identified as Michelle Bishop, was reportedly jogging with her two small children when she encountered Jenkins. She claimed to have felt threatened by a vehicle that was approaching them slowly, prompting her to run towards the nearest house, which happened to be Jenkins’ home.

    When Jenkins arrived and introduced himself as the homeowner, Bishop responded with skepticism, saying,

    “I don’t believe that,”

    before leaving the property with her children. Later she is seen running down the street crying out for

    “help.”

    Following the video’s viral spread, Bishop faced significant backlash online, with many accusing her of racial profiling. In an emotional outburst, she insisted she wouldn’t apologize for any racist claims and that her only concern was for her children’s safety, stating,

    “I am the furthest thing from racist.”

    Bishop also mentioned that she couldn’t see Jenkins’ race at the time because it was dark. Jenkins later took to his Instagram to discuss the incident, expressing how calm he remained throughout. He shared his pride in managing the situation with composure, noting that it would have been easy to react with anger.

    An ex-convict strangled and decapitated a man who had impregnated his wife while he was incarcerated, according to authorities per the NY Post. The victim’s hands were also severed and later found by a five-year-old boy, in a mailbox.

    Anthony Newton, 45, is now facing charges for the brutal murder of Ulisys ‘Cesar’ Molina. Molina’s burned and dismembered remains were found in a vacant lot near Las Vegas in 2017, after his family reported him missing, as reported by KLAS. In court last week, a Nevada judge heard that Newton, along with his brother-in-law and another woman, allegedly lured Molina to the woman’s apartment around Christmas 2016 and killed him due to the affair.

    One of Molina’s severed hands was discovered in a mailbox by a five-year-old child nearly two years later. The circumstances surrounding how the hand ended up there remain unclear, and it’s unknown whether the family that owned the mailbox had any connection to Molina. His head and the other hand have never been located.

    Newton is currently facing the death penalty in a retrial after a judge declared a mistrial in the original case last November when a co-defendant disclosed Newton’s previous prison sentence to the jury. Newton’s wife, Jami Malaperdas, was having an affair with Molina in 2015 while Newton was in prison, although the specific crime that led to Newton’s imprisonment is not clear. According to the defense, Malaperdas became pregnant and later got an abortion.
