Former Teacher Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison for Sexually Abusing Elementary School Students

Jacqueline Ma, once celebrated as Teacher of the Year, is now facing prison time for grooming and sexually abusing two elementary school students, as reported by the NY Post. On Friday, a judge sentenced the 36-year-old to 30 years in prison, according to the San Diego Union Tribune.

Ma, who was named San Diego County’s Teacher of the Year in late 2022, was arrested in April 2023 and pleaded guilty in February to multiple charges, including forcible lewd acts on a child and possession of materials depicting minors in sexual situations.

The former educator worked with fifth- and sixth-graders at Lincoln Acres Elementary School in National City. During her sentencing, Ma expressed that she felt “deeply ashamed of my actions” and apologized for taking “away their childhood.”

The investigation into Ma began when the mother of a 12-year-old boy she had been grooming alerted authorities after discovering love letters and inappropriate text messages she had sent to him. Prosecutors revealed that this grooming lasted for a span of 10 months. Additionally, police have indicated that Ma had previously groomed an 11-year-old boy years earlier.

Michigan Father Arrested After Forcing His 11-Year-Old Daughter To Break Into Home With Him, Then Ditched Her When Homeowners’s Son Arrived

A father from Michigan has been accused of making his 11-year-old daughter break into a house in Detroit; however, left her behind when things got sticky. 29-year-old Andre Stephon-Curtis Broadenax reportedly stole a man’s car in Dearborn and then drove to a nearby house being renovated on April 29, per the New York Post

Reports say the man reportedly broke in and forced his daughter to join.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, “The defendant forced his 11-year-old daughter to assist him with the home invasion.”

  • Georgia College Student Detained by ICE After Making an Illegal Right Turn, Police Say

Georgia College Student Detained by ICE After Making an Illegal Right Turn, Police Say

A college student from Georgia, who has been in the U.S. since she was 4, has been taken into ICE custody and is now at risk of deportation, all due to a wrong turn, according to Huff Post.

Ximena Arias-Cristobal, 19, a student at Dalton State College, was pulled over by police in Dalton on Monday for turning right despite a “no turn on red” sign, as detailed in a police report obtained by HuffPost. Arias-Cristobal informed the officers that she had an international driver’s license, but she did not have it on her at that time. As a result, the police arrested her for driving without a valid driver’s license and for making an illegal right turn on red.

A representative from the Dalton Police Department explained to HuffPost that officers must arrest anyone driving without a license and do not have the discretion to overlook that violation. After her arrest, Arias-Cristobal was taken to Whitfield County Jail. Arias-Cristobal’s family shared with ABC affiliate WTCV that the young woman is currently being held at Stewart Detention Center alongside her father, Jose Francisco Arias-Tovar.

Arias-Tovar, was arrested two weeks ago for exceeding the speed limit by 19 miles. This facility is located near Columbus, Georgia. The outlet reported that Whitfield County has had a “jail enforcement model” agreement with ICE since June 2020. This allows ICE to identify and take custody of “removable” immigrants detained by state or local law enforcement.

Arias-Tovar’s wife told the outlet that her husband has no criminal history, runs a construction business, and pays taxes.

  • Mother Allegedly ‘Tried to Run Over Group of Elementary Students’ After They Fled from a Fight, Police Say

Mother Allegedly ‘Tried to Run Over Group of Elementary Students’ After They Fled from a Fight, Police Say

A Louisiana mother is accused of bringing several children to a local school to engage in “fight other kids” before she allegedly “tried to run over a group of elementary students with her car,” per Law & Crime

Lejonkica Sharp, 23, was arrested last week and charged with six counts of aggravated assault related to the incident. A news release from the Shreveport Police Department stated that the events occurred around 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 29, at an elementary school located approximately 350 miles northwest of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

“Officers were called to Pine Grove Elementary after a parent reportedly dropped off kids to fight other kids … then tried to run over a group of elementary students with her car when things didn’t go her way,” the statement said. Another parent present at the school during the incident called 911.

The children allegedly hopped out of Sharp’s car intending to confront the caller’s elementary school-aged children. The caller explained that when her children ran away on foot, Sharp attempted to run them over. At least one of the children Sharp brought to the school was her own, according to Shreveport CBS affiliate KSLA. Investigators stated that when they reached out to Sharp, she claimed the caller’s children had been “throwing rocks at her car.” However, they reviewed surveillance footage from the school that presented a very different account of events.

“Footage clearly showed Sharp deliberately trying to hit six children with her vehicle,” the release states. Authorities took Sharp into custody on May 1. “If you think the solution to kid drama is vehicular assault — we’ve got a spot for you, and it’s not in the carpool line. Do better, parents. Seriously,” the police department posted to its official Facebook page.

  • Bernie Sanders Is Unapologetic About Flying on Private Jets During Campaign Tour: ‘You Think I’m Gonna be Sitting on a Waiting Line at United?’

Bernie Sanders Is Unapologetic About Flying on Private Jets During Campaign Tour: ‘You Think I’m Gonna be Sitting on a Waiting Line at United?’

Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders won’t be apologizing for using private jets to travel across the country during his campaign against the wealthy.

Sanders (D-Vt.) boldly defended his choice of transportation after facing significant criticism for flying private during his recent “Fighting Oligarchy” tour with far-left Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York.

“No apologies for that,” Sanders, 83, told Fox News’ “Special Report” late Wednesday when asked about the backlash. “That’s what campaign travel is about. We’ve done it in the past. We’re gonna do it in the future.”

“You run a campaign and you do three or four or five rallies in a week. That’s the only way you can get around to talk to 30,000 people,” he told host Bret Baier. “You think I’m gonna be sitting on a waiting line at United … while 30,000 people are waiting?” When questioned about the contradiction of his travel choice in light of his eco-warrior stance, Sanders said: “When was the last time you saw Donald Trump during the campaign mode at a national airport?”
