  • NJ Couple Arrested After Being Accused Of Chaining Up Teen In Bathroom and Forcing Her To Live Inside Dog Crate

NJ Couple Arrested After Being Accused Of Chaining Up Teen In Bathroom and Forcing Her To Live Inside Dog Crate

A couple from New Jersey is accused of mistreating a teenage girl for seven years by making her live in a dog crate and chaining her in a bathroom. Prosecutors claim Brenda Spencer, 38, and Branndon Mosley, 41, abused the now-18-year-old girl physically, mentally, and sexually since 2018, according to the New York Post

The victim escaped from the home on Thursday and reported that the abuse started when Spencer pulled her out of school in sixth grade. She resided in a dog crate for a year, then was locked in a bathroom and chained up, and only allowed outside during relative visits. When not in the bathroom, she stayed in a bare room with just a bucket for a toilet.

The victim informed officials that her room had an alarm system to alert Spencer and Mosley if she tried to escape. She endured mental torture and was beaten and sexually abused by Mosley, a SEPTA train conductor, until she escaped last week with a neighbor’s assistance and reported her ordeal. Investigators discovered her living conditions to be very poor.

Detectives also discovered a 13-year-old girl at the house who had been taken out of school years earlier by Spencer. Inside, officials located many dogs, chinchillas, and other animals. The couple was apprehended and charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, and child endangerment, among other charges. Mosley faces five counts of sexual assault.

A Florida home health nurse, Nia Ayers, has been arrested for allegedly abusing an 18-year-old disabled woman in her care. Ayers, 24, faces charges of aggravated abuse of a disabled adult following an investigation by the St. Cloud Police Department.

  • Innocent 16-Year-Old Girl Shot in the Head and Killed By 14-Year-Old Boy Outside a Bronx School

Innocent 16-Year-Old Girl Shot in the Head and Killed By 14-Year-Old Boy Outside a Bronx School

A 16-year-old girl, Evette Jeffrey, was fatally shot in the head while riding her scooter near a Bronx school on Monday afternoon. According to The New York Post and ABC7NY, the shooting occurred around 5 p.m. after a fistfight among teenage boys escalated. The unfortunate incident occurred outside a Morrisania school complex housing three institutions.

Jeffrey, uninvolved in the fight, was an unintended victim, police said. Surveillance footage showed a group of teens leaving the schoolyard and moving into a nearby walkway, where a physical altercation erupted. One boy punched another, who later retrieved a pistol, allegedly handed to him. Then he fired three rounds into the crowd, striking Jeffrey.

“She immediately falls to the ground, while the other children run away for their lives,” said NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch during a press briefing. A friend of the victim reportedly tried to protect her but was unable to stop the tragedy.

The suspected shooter, just 14 years old, remains at large. No arrests have been made.

Mayor Eric Adams visited the scene, calling the incident a “senseless tragedy.” Adams equally urged parents to monitor their children more closely. “We should not have had a 14-year-old with a gun,” Adams stated, announcing increased police presence around local schools.

This marks the first homicide in the 42nd Precinct this year. Despite the tragedy, the Bronx has seen a significant drop in violent crime, with murders and shootings down 30% compared to last year, per NYPD data.

  • Three Climbers Killed, One Injured After Falling 400 Feet While Rock Climbing

Three Climbers Killed, One Injured After Falling 400 Feet While Rock Climbing

Three climbers tragically died and a fourth was injured after an apparent anchor failure while descending a gulley near North Early Winters Spire in Washington’s North Cascades, according to the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred on May 11 as the group was rappelling down a steep rock face.

Undersheriff David Yarnell told The New York Times that the climbers fell approximately 200 feet, then slid another 200 feet down a snow-covered slope. The group had decided to retreat due to shifting weather conditions when the accident occurred.

The survivor managed to hike back to a vehicle and drive about 60 miles to Newhalem, where he found a pay phone and alerted emergency services. Authorities responded to the scene around 11:30 a.m. and later recovered the bodies.

The deceased climbers were residents of Renton, Washington, aged 36, 47, and 63. Their names have not yet been released pending notification of relatives.

This tragic event highlights the unpredictable nature of mountain environments and the critical importance of secure anchors during technical descents. The investigation is ongoing.

  • Man Mauled to Death & Eaten by His Own Pet Lion Just Days After Buying the Beast to Keep in His Garden

Man Mauled to Death & Eaten by His Own Pet Lion Just Days After Buying the Beast to Keep in His Garden

A 50-year-old man, Aqil Fakh Ral-Din, was fatally attacked by his pet lion in the city of Kufa, southern Iraq. This happened days after acquiring the animal with hopes of taming it in his garden. Al-Din, known locally for keeping wild animals, was discovered partially eaten, according to Rudaw.

Local police spokesperson Mufid Tahir confirmed the incident, stating the lion had consumed much of the victim’s body and resisted leaving the remains. Officers were prompted to shoot the animal. Reports from local media indicate a neighbor initially attempted to intervene, firing several rounds from a Kalashnikov rifle.

Aqil Fakh Ral-Din was transported to Al-Sadr Medical City in Najaf but succumbed to his injuries. A video of the dead lion in the garden quickly circulated online, igniting debate over Iraq’s permissive stance on exotic pet ownership.

Despite Iraq ratifying the Convention on the Protection of Animals in 2014, illegal wildlife trade remains rampant. The country sees a thriving black market for rare species, including falcons and big cats, often trafficked across borders or displayed in private collections with little oversight.

In a parallel case in the U.S., a kangaroo fatally injured a zoo worker in South Carolina. Local authorities confirmed the animal was directly involved. South Carolina, along with Wisconsin and West Virginia, allows kangaroo ownership without a permit, raising concerns over lax exotic animal laws.

The two incidents underscore growing global risks tied to unregulated ownership of wild animals.

  • Man Accused of Locking His Army Veteran Uncle in Garage, Concealing His Death, and Using His Benefits to Buy Exotic Reptiles and Fund Lavish Vacations

Man Accused of Locking His Army Veteran Uncle in Garage, Concealing His Death, and Using His Benefits to Buy Exotic Reptiles and Fund Lavish Vacations

A Missouri man, Brian Ditch, has been indicted after allegedly imprisoning his quadriplegic uncle, a U.S. Army veteran, in a garage and hiding his death for five years to continue collecting disability benefits.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri, the 44-year-old is charged with wire fraud, identity theft, theft of government property, and illegal firearm possession. Prosecutors say he stole over $650,000 in Veterans Affairs and Social Security benefits meant for his uncle, Thomas Clubb.

Clubb, paralyzed during military service in Germany, had been under Ditch’s care since 2008. Officials allege Ditch confined him to a garage, denying him food and sanitation. Clubb reportedly died in 2019, but Ditch told relatives he had been placed in a nursing home.

Authorities discovered Clubb’s partially frozen body in March 2025, hidden in a trash can inside a shed in Salem, Missouri, alongside firearms that Ditch was barred from owning as a felon.

According to PEOPLE and NBC affiliate KSDK, Ditch used the stolen funds on luxury vacations and exotic reptiles. His criminal record includes domestic battery and burglary.

“This is an abhorrent crime against a defenseless veteran,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney Derek Wiseman.

The case, described as “one of a kind,” is being prosecuted with assistance from the Salem Police Department, Department of Veterans Affairs, the Social Security Administration, and the ATF. Brian Ditch pleaded not guilty on May 9 in U.S. District Court in St. Louis.
