Kentucky Father Allegedly Set House on Fire with His Two Teenage Sons Inside

A Kentucky father is accused of deliberately setting his house on fire while his two teenage sons were still inside, according to Too Fab. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of arson.

Dustin Fields, 43, was arrested last week and charged with first-degree arson following a fire at his Franklin County home on April 30. When first responders arrived, they discovered his sons, 13-year-old Bently Fields and 15-year-old Rylan Fields, deceased, along with the family dog. During a hearing on Monday, Fields entered a not guilty plea and requested to be temporarily released to attend his sons’ funeral. However, the judge maintained his bond at $2 million.

“I miss my boys,” he reportedly told the court. When asked about owning property during the hearing, he reportedly said, “I do but it just recently went up in a ball of flames, so there’s nothing but grass and a garage at the moment.”

Investigators, using a K-9 from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, detected accelerants on his shoes and around the house, including the area where the teens’ bodies were found. Chief Dwayne Depp of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office informed PEOPLE that Fields was not present when first responders arrived but appeared shortly after. He reportedly provided “conflicting information” to investigators, with the Sheriff indicating that further charges could arise as the investigation continues.

A GoFundMe created by a friend of Fields’ wife—who is not the mother of the two victims—revealed that she had recently sought an emergency protective order against Dustin for herself, her son, and her stepsons. The friend mentioned that the hearing was scheduled for May 7.

  • Man Arrested for Stealing 800-Lbs Historic Spanish American War Cannon to Settle $20k Drug Debt

Man Arrested for Stealing 800-Lbs Historic Spanish American War Cannon to Settle $20k Drug Debt

A Wichita man was arrested last week after stealing and destroying a historic 800-pound cannon from a local park in a desperate attempt to settle a drug debt, according to local authorities.

Gordon Pierce, 38, admitted to police that he took the 1794 Spanish-American War-era cannon from Riverside Park to appease his meth dealer, who had allegedly threatened to kill him and his family over a $20,000 debt, KSNW reported.

Pierce, a longtime meth user, claimed the debt arose after a pound of meth he was supposed to sell was stolen. Unable to pay, he initially searched for copper statues to sell but instead targeted the cannon, citing its secluded location in the park, according to an affidavit.

As detailed by KAKE, Pierce recruited a homeless man with meth and a pipe to help move the cannon. When lifting it failed, they attempted to tow it with Pierce’s Chevrolet Tahoe.

The chain snapped near an auto shop, forcing Pierce to retrieve another chain and drag the cannon to a friend’s garage, where he cut it into five pieces. Pierce delivered some of the scrap to his dealer, hoping it would resolve the debt.

Instead, the dealer reportedly berated him and issued new threats. Afraid for his life, Pierce confessed everything to his mother before police arrived.

City officials estimate over $100,000 in damage, including $10,000 to the granite base. Pierce remains in custody on a $200,000 bond.

Virginia Homeowner Arrested for Fatally Shooting High School Athlete Filming TikTok Prank with Friends

A Virginia homeowner, Tyler Chase Butler, is facing serious charges after allegedly fatally shooting a high school athlete during a TikTok prank gone wrong.

Michael Bosworth Jr., 18, a senior at Massaponax High School and a three-sport athlete, was killed early Saturday morning while participating in a game of “ding dong ditch” with two friends, according to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the group rang the doorbell of Butler, 27, around 3 a.m. in Fredericksburg. Butler, who later told police he believed the teens were attempting a break-in, opened fire, killing Bosworth and injuring one of his friends. A third teen escaped unharmed.

Local news outlet Fredericksburg Free Lance–Star reported that the wounded teen insisted they were recording the prank for TikTok. They were looking for a hiding spot when shots were fired. NBC 4 Washington also confirmed the activity as part of a doorbell-ringing prank.

Tragically, the incident occurred just hours before Bosworth was scheduled to attend his high school prom. Tyler Chase Butler has been charged with second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and multiple firearm offenses.

He is currently being held without bond at Rappahannock Regional Jail, officials confirmed.

Louisiana Woman Sentenced to Life in Prison for Killing Her Boyfriend’s 6-Year-Old Daughter, And Stuffing Her Body into A Bucket for The Girl’s Mother to Find

Bunnak Hannah Landon was sentenced to life without parole on May 6 for the 2023 murder of 6-year-old Bella Fontenelle, according to WWL-TV. A Jefferson Parish judge also gave Landon 80 more years for obstruction of justice.

Landon was convicted last week of first-degree murder and two obstruction counts. She had claimed insanity. However, prosecutors countered with evidence that she knew what she was doing.

Bella and her sister were under Bunnak Hannah Landon’s care on April 25, 2023, while their father worked late in Kenner. That evening, Landon killed Bella and placed her body in a 13-gallon bucket, which she left at the girl’s mother’s home. Surveillance footage showed her pulling the bucket in a wagon.

An Amber Alert was issued the next morning. Bella’s grandmother discovered the bucket. Authorities found Bella’s body inside, in pajamas.

The coroner ruled she died from strangulation and blunt-force trauma. A video recovered from Bunnak “Hannah” Landon’s buried phone showed Bella crying and asking for her grandmother. This was shortly before her death.

Despite her defense citing PTSD from surviving Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge, the jury agreed with prosecution experts who said Landon understood her actions.

January Philadelphia Plane Crash Claims Eighth Victim as Mother of 3 Dies Months After Debris Hit Her Car, Killing Her Fiancé

A devoted Philadelphia mother, Dominique Goods-Burke, has become the eighth fatality in the aftermath of a tragic plane crash earlier this year.

The 34-year-old succumbed to her injuries on April 27. This was three months after debris from a falling Learjet 55 struck the car she was in with her fiancé, Steven Dreuitt. One of her children was also injured in the unfortunate incident.

The crash occurred on January 31 when the Mexico-bound medical transport plane fell shortly after departing Philadelphia. All six people on board lost their lives, including a young girl who had just undergone life-saving treatment.

On the ground, over two dozen residents were injured, and more than a dozen homes were severely damaged. Goods-Burke had been hospitalized at Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital since the incident.

Her son, who was also in the car, suffered serious burns. Dreuitt died at the scene. According to Fox 29, Meg Hagele, founder of High Point Café where Goods-Burke worked, described her as “an amazing mom” and “incredible baker”.

In a heartfelt tribute, the café posted on social media: “Dominique was a fighter until the end… We will miss her kind smile and heart full of love.”

A GoFundMe set up by loved ones called Dominique Goods-Burke a “devoted mother to her 3 children and partner.” A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday. The crash remains under federal investigation, occurring just days after a separate air tragedy claimed 67 lives in Washington.

  • If You Can’t Evict Them, Join Them: Homeowner Moves In With Squatters Who Refused to Vacate His Property

If You Can’t Evict Them, Join Them: Homeowner Moves In With Squatters Who Refused to Vacate His Property

Marco Velazquez, a Chicago homeowner, took an unusual step to reclaim his South Side property. The homeowner reportedly moved in with the very squatters occupying it.

Velazquez was preparing to sell his house when his realtor informed him it was already inhabited. When Velazquez arrived, he found Shermaine C. Powell and her boyfriend, Codarro T. Dorsey, living there and claiming ownership.

According to ABC 7 Chicago, the pair presented a suspicious mortgage document to justify their stay. Authorities, unable to verify the paperwork, said they were powerless to remove the couple without a civil eviction process due to Illinois law.

Powell, already facing charges for allegedly squatting in another home, including burglary and forgery, maintained her innocence, as reported by local media.

Frustrated by the legal stalemate, Velazquez decided to move into the house with his wife and friends, camping out in the living room while the couple stayed in a bedroom. “We stayed a whole night with them,” he told ABC.

When the tactic failed, the squatters allegedly demanded $8,000 to leave. After negotiations, Marco Velazquez reluctantly agreed to pay $4,300 in a cash-for-keys deal.

“I’ve heard stories, but never thought it’d happen to me,” he said.

This case has reignited debate over Illinois’ squatter laws. A proposed bill, SB1563, dubbed the “Squatter’s Bill”, is now advancing in the state legislature. The bill aims to allow swift removal of unauthorized occupants when rightful ownership is proven.

Police Searching for Texas Man Facing Murder Trial Who Removed Ankle Monitor and Went on the Run

Texas authorities have reported that a capital murder suspect is currently at large after he removed his ankle monitor on the day he was supposed to go on trial, as stated by PEOPLE.

In a social media update on Monday, May 5, the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office announced that various law enforcement agencies are searching for Trevor McEuen, who faces capital murder charges. He was expected to appear in court for his trial on that Monday but instead took off his court-ordered ankle monitor around 5:30 a.m. and “left his residence,” according to the sheriff’s office.

“It is currently unknown whether McEuen fled on foot or in a vehicle, and there is no description of the clothing he may be wearing,” the sheriff’s office said. “Authorities also have not confirmed whether he is armed. The public is urged to remain vigilant and not approach McEuen if spotted.”

McEuen faces a capital murder charge in connection with the May 2023 shooting of his neighbor, 35-year-old Aaron Martinez, as reported by ABC affiliate WFAA, KDFW, and CBS News. Allegedly, McEuen told Martinez that Hispanics were unwelcome in the neighborhood shortly after he moved in, according to Martinez’s family.

McEuen was arrested in May 2023 and was released on bond with conditions. He was arrested again in September 2024 for posting threats against Martinez and his uncle on social media. The suspect was held on a $2 million bond and was released after posting it last December. Authorities are now offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to his capture.

Former College Football Player Allegedly Fired Shots in a Bar, Leading to One Death and an Injury Following a Bar Fight

A former college football player who played for both the University of Miami and the University of Maryland has been taken into custody on a second-degree murder charge, as confirmed by PEOPLE.

Avantae Williams, 24, was arrested on Monday, May 5, in connection with the death of 32-year-old Keshod Harris. According to a statement from DeLand police, a physical altercation erupted among several men at McCabe’s Bar in DeLand, Florida, on Saturday, May 3. The former college athlete is accused of firing shots in the bar, resulting in Harris’s death.

Williams reportedly escaped the scene following the shooting, which also left a bartender injured with “gunshot wounds to both hands,” according to a statement from the DeLand Police Department shared on Facebook earlier this week. “The bartender was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries,” DeLand police added. Keshod Harris, 32, lost his life in the incident after being shot “multiple times in the chest,” according to police reports.

  • Burger King Ordered to Face Lawsuit Claiming Whoppers Are Significantly Smaller Than Advertised, Reports Say

Burger King Ordered to Face Lawsuit Claiming Whoppers Are Significantly Smaller Than Advertised, Reports Say

Burger King must face a lawsuit alleging it misled customers into thinking that its Whopper sandwich and other products appear larger in advertisements than they truly are, as reported by the NY Post.

In a ruling on Monday, US District Judge Roy Altman in Miami determined that it is plausible that “some” reasonable consumers in the proposed class action could be misled by Burger King’s advertisements. Nineteen customers from 13 states have accused the fast-food chain of significantly exaggerating the size of nearly all its menu items in both in-store and online promotions. They pointed to the way burgers are depicted as “[overflowing]” the buns, with the Whopper appearing 35% larger than the real product and containing more than twice the meat.

Burger King admitted that its photographers “styled sandwiches more beautifully” than how they are presented by employees in restaurants. However, they argued that reasonable consumers understand that the purpose of menu board images is to showcase items in the most appealing way possible. Altman nonetheless found allegations that Burger King’s ads “go beyond mere exaggeration or puffery.”

Altman claims that Burger King has allegedly exaggerated the size of its products “to a much greater degree,” particularly in advertisements after 2017, where the Whopper appears larger than in previous ads. “The plaintiffs’ claims are false,” Burger King said in a statement on Tuesday. “The flame-grilled beef patties portrayed in our advertising are the same patties used in the millions of burgers we serve to guests across the U.S.”

  • Arizona Pastor Found Dead in Bed with His Arms Spread Out, Hands Pinned to a Wall in Disturbing Scene

Arizona Pastor Found Dead in Bed with His Arms Spread Out, Hands Pinned to a Wall in Disturbing Scene

Pastor William Bill Schonemann, 76, was found murdered in his New River, Arizona, home on April 28 in what authorities are calling a deeply disturbing scene, according to Fox 10.

His body was discovered lying in bed with his arms outstretched and his hands pinned to the wall. Though officials have not released specific details about the cause of death, law enforcement confirmed Schonemann suffered severe injuries.

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner has ruled Pastor William Bill Schonemann’s death a homicide. “There appeared to be signs of foul play,” said Deputy Will Jinks with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, adding that due to the sensitive nature of the case, further information could not be disclosed at this time.

Despite reassurances that there is no known threat to the public, the killing has rattled the small New River, Arizona, community. “We locked our doors. We never do that,” said neighbor Mike Anders. Emily Brean, another local resident, said, “Why would anyone kill a pastor? It doesn’t make sense.”

Schonemann’s son, Randall, described his father as a peaceful man with no enemies. The pastor had led New River Bible Chapel for over 25 years and was widely respected in the community.
