Humans are emotional, but not everyone can pad their feelings with intelligence. That is because emotional intelligence is not only based on how you process your emotions. Surprisingly, it is heavily hinged on controlling your influence on others and vice versa.

Whether at work or home, you must be able to display emotional intelligence. Remember that your workspace or home surroundings involve interpersonal relationships. So yes, you cannot escape applying intelligence to your feelings.

Consequently, your emotional intelligence affects you the most. The inability to manage it well can cause depression, among other emotional issues. See below some elements of emotional intelligence suggested by The Economic Times.

Ride On The Wings Of Emotional Intelligence

Practice Self Regulation

To beat this, you must be able to think critically about your actions and decisions. This process serves as a form of check and balance. It is easy to control people’s views of you when you regulate how you act, what to say, and when to speak.

Emotional Intelligence Requires Showing Empathy

Check the opening paragraph — humans are emotional. This is nothing far from the truth. Showing empathy means knowing where the shoe pinches because you are wearing it. Before you come down heavy with criticism or judgment, see yourself as the other person. In an interpersonal relationship at work, portray genuine empathy and see how people begin to admire you.

Are You Motivated Enough?

A skill that distinguishes you from the pack is your sense of motivation. Don’t laze around and wait for your bosses or staff to walk by. As a worker or leader in a firm, you must show motivation to earn respect and charge the establishment positively. You control things and display emotional intelligence by respecting your colleagues and boss(es). This practice should be extended to everyone around.

Don’t Bargain With Social Skills

Interpersonal relationships are a great way to show your social skills. If you are an introvert, you should learn this. Because when you are out, people feel comfortable latching onto you if you are outgoing. One way to gain their audience is by practicing emotional intelligence. Let them know you are interested in their conversations. Also, tell who belongs to the acquaintance list and friend list.
