During Fat Joe and Ja Rule’s Verzuz in 2021, all eyes were on the rappers who battled it out with lyrics. Little did anyone know that it would glorify a long-lost love. While facing Ja Rule, Fat Joe beckoned Nelly, who immediately spotted Ashanti. Amid the synergy they once shared, Nelly was a bit hesitant to reach out, but he wanted to do so badly. Fortunately, another team member from Fat Joe’s Verzuz encouraged him to do so.
It has been two years later, and Fat Joe remembers it like it was yesterday. When sharing the story with his Instagram family, the rapper shared his optimism about their romance. He quipped, “I don’t know why they fell out.”
Fat Joe’s Verzuz competition shared similar sentiments about the lovers. During an interview with Tamron Hall, Ja Rule maintained that Nelly and Ashanti’s reunion happened seamlessly. According to him, they missed each other “because of the way they just clicked and came back so fast.”
Fat Joe praises Nelly and Ashanti’s love but demands his compensation.
The rapper reflected on his intimate conversation with the couple, referring to their romance as a happy-ever-after tale. Fat Joe then explained how he talked to the duo about their pregnancy news. He added, “I immediately tell them I need ten percent of this kid because, if it wasn’t for Verzuz… that’s when they saw each other and energy connected again.”
Before their reunion, Nelly and Ashanti dated for a decade. They were apart for about another ten years before mending hearts. Amid what looked like an effortless journey, the duo refused to tell the world about their reunion. They remained tight-lipped until last year.
