A woman from Florida has been arrested after she falsely claimed that her children’s Christmas presents had been stolen, reports Fox News

The incident occurred in Lehigh Acres, Florida, when Shana Hudson, 39, called the authorities on November 19th to report a residential burglary. Hudson alleged that someone had broken into her home and taken several items, including the Christmas presents meant for her children, leaving them without gifts for the upcoming holidays.

In response to the report, detectives from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation. They also went above and beyond by coordinating a donation from the Lehigh Acres American Legion, as well as securing funds from the sheriff’s office’s Shop With a Cop program. Their goal was to surprise the family with new presents and ensure they had a joyful holiday season.

However, as the detectives looked deeper into the case, a tip received by Crime Stoppers helped uncover the truth. Investigators found evidence that proved Hudson had fabricated the burglary. The detectives later discovered the reported stolen items hidden at a relative’s house.

As a result, Hudson was arrested and the truth behind her

was exposed.

“This pathetic behavior is unacceptable, especially given the circumstances this holiday season,”

Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a statement.

“This woman took advantage of the system and is now paying the price for her selfish choices.”

She is charged with a fraud-false report to law enforcement.
