To serve one’s country, wellness in some dimensions is essential. Therefore, it is not surprising that the Edwards Air Force Base, where men and women are trained and evaluated for their excellence in aerospace, upholds this standard.
They have even developed a unique website called “The Four Dimensions of Wellness.” This emphasis on wellness highlights that certain areas must be addressed for an individual to be considered “well.”
The four dimensions include:
Spiritual Wellness
Spirituality holds a significant influence and passion for many individuals. Those with a solid spiritual foundation derived from religious beliefs, experiences, or backgrounds can be dedicated to serving their nation and assisting their colleagues.
While it may not be a reality for everyone to believe in a supreme being controlling the universe, individuals need to set aside time for meditation and self-reflection, as these practices signify spiritual wellness.
Emotional Wellness
Emotional stability revolves around one’s ability to manage their emotions. A positive outlook and approach towards life can strengthen one’s emotional well-being.
If you struggle with emotional stability, ask yourself if you are anxious about the future and if you allow your fears to overpower your decision-making.
Social Wellness
A socially aware person is mindful of their actions within their immediate environment and society. Socialization involves selflessness and showing appreciation to family and friends by dedicating specific time to spend with them.
Furthermore, socially upright individuals cultivate positive relationships and actively engage in hobbies. Being well socially is crucial for overall health, as it involves interacting with others. Social awkwardness can hinder the ability to connect with others and have a negative impact on an individual’s well-being.
Physical Wellness
Some may believe that simply appreciating one’s physique is sufficient for physical wellness. However, relying solely on appearance can be detrimental.
True physical wellness entails being mindful of eating habits, exercise routines, and how they contribute to overall well-being and quality of life.
