Former Nickelodeon star Kenan Thompson bounced back from being played by his corrupt assistant, but the experience remains etched in his heart. In an honest conversation on The Breakfast Club, the former child star discussed how his mom’s accountant duped him and how light appeared at the end of the tunnel.

Kenan Thompson Lost $1.5 Million to His Accountant

Not that it was a lawsuit loss, but a fraudulent activity of one trusted man. The Nickelodeon alum revealed that his family misjudged a character. In his words:

“We gave that dude power of attorney when we shouldn’t. I was a kid, and my mom was trying to protect me,” Thompson explained. “He had helped her out of her and my dad’s tax situations. So, she thought she could trust him, but she could trust him with $30,000 to $50,000 issues. When it’s a million dollars on the table, you never know what people are gonna turn into. And apparently, he turned into a demon.”

Consequently, for some time, Kenan Thompson was bankrupt and was pursued by the IRS over tax evasion. But he went after the fraudulent accountant and had his day in court. Despite emerging victorious, the comedic actor did not recoup his money.

However, what the star got was more valuable than money. He learned ways to get by and remained resilient through the years. Though Kenan revealed his migration to a new state, he got what he wanted. In 2003, fate smiled on the comedian, and he bagged his SNL role.

It has been more than two decades since Kenan Thompson lost $1.5 million, but the Nickelodeon star has achieved much more. Apart from being the longest-serving tenure member on SNL, he is an Emmy holder.
