A couple from Kentucky has been arrested on suspicion of human trafficking after allegedly using marijuana to pay a juvenile who was caring for their three children, reports RADAR Online.
The Department of Community-Based Services contacted Scottsville police to help with the investigation into the couple. Court documents reveal that a 16-year-old was hired to babysit the children while their parents were at work. The teenager lived with 34-year-old Trevor Johnson and 30-year-old Amber Caldwell at their residence in Scottsville, at the time.
Caldwell denied the accusation, while Johnson turned himself into the police. The couple now faces charges of second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor, as well as human trafficking charges. The children have been removed from the home, and the teenager is now staying with a relative in Tennessee.
The case is currently pending in Allen District Court, with the couple scheduled to appear for their arraignment on October 11, reports note.
