A kitchen worker in Midtown was injured when a stranger struck him in the face with a beer bottle, reports the NY Post. The incident occurred on Wednesday at the Columbus Circle subway station. The victim, Rafael Galves Garcia, 44, was approached by a disturbed individual who asked him for $1. As a result of the attack, Garcia received six stitches and expressed concerns about the safety of the area.

“The guy came up to me and asked for money,”

Garcia told The Post in Spanish Thursday afternoon.

“I told him, ‘No, I don’t have any money.’”

“I thought he was leaving but he came back and asked me the same thing.”

That’s when the stranger grabbed the plastic bag that Garcia was holding and tried to tear it away from him, according to his account.

“What I had in the bag was a plastic water bottle and some chips,”

Garcia said.

“He grabbed it from my hand and I tried to get it from him, and in that moment he hit me with a glass bottle.”

According to the authorities, Garcia suffered a cut on his forehead and experienced minor bleeding as a result of the impact. He was immediately transported to Mount Sinai West Hospital, where he is currently in stable condition. Garcia stated that he received six stitches to close the gash.
