A Houston man has been accused of imprisoning a woman in his garage for almost five years and administering drugs to prevent her from escaping, according to court documents obtained by FOX 26 Houston. Lee Carter, aged 52, is facing charges of aggravated kidnapping.

The incident allegedly took place approximately five years ago when Carter encountered the pregnant woman begging for money in Almeda Genoa. Carter gave the woman a dollar and offered to help her, which she accepted. He then drove her to his house on the 5200 block of Perry Street in southeast Houston. A charging document states that the victim

“begged to leave,”

but Carter drugged her with crack cocaine, leaving her

“physically unable”

to flee his garage, FOX 26 reported.

A complaint was filed in April 2023 when the victim managed to contact the police using Carter’s computer. On April 7, Houston police officers went to Carter’s house and spoke to the woman. She informed them that she had been held captive by Carter in his home for four to five years, enduring sexual assault and drugging. She managed to escape once by breaking a window in the garage and climbing out. However, Carter later found her at a local hospital and brought her back to his home, securing the window so she couldn’t escape again.

When the police made contact with the woman last year, police described her as

“roughly 30-year-old, 5 ft., 2 in,”

and severely

“malnourished,”

weighing only about 70 pounds. A warrant was issued in April, but Carter’s arrest didn’t happen until Friday after police conducted a welfare check at his residence. Police also rescued a dog in the garage, which they believe Carter used to keep the victim captive. However, the woman was not found at the scene.

Carter was apprehended at a motel and is currently held at Harris County Jail on a $100,000 bond. How he managed to avoid arrest for approximately nine months remains unclear. According to sources interviewed by FOX 26, Carter is a local rapper who performs under the stage name

“Viper.”
