A man from Florida was arrested after reportedly mocking a disabled person at a Disney World restaurant and getting into a fight with her family, reports the NY Post.
The incident occurred in January at Belle Vue Lounge inside Disney’s Boardwalk Inn. The man, identified as Brent George, allegedly targeted a girl with Down Syndrome, which led to her mother, Candance Boyette Goldberg, confronting him.
George allegedly became aggressive and pushed Goldberg, as well as slapped Maria Ayalde, Goldberg’s daughter-in-law, when she tried to intervene. Ayalde’s husband, Wesley Goldberg, then punched George in self-defense. A bystander stepped in and wrapped George in a bear hug to try and get him out of the restaurant, police said.
George told police he had been
“struck by a glass cup”
during the altercation, which a witness backed up, according to the complaint. According to police, George had cuts on his face and no broken glass was recovered at the scene.
Before the incident, George, his wife, and two friends were drinking at the bar and enjoying themselves with another family. However, George claimed that the family suddenly attacked him. Despite wanting to press charges against the family, George decided not to provide a statement to the police.
The family members provided written statements and requested to seek prosecution. As a result, George was arrested for striking the family and charged with four counts of battery. He spent the night in Orange County Jail and was released the next day after his wife, Marla George, paid his $4,000 bond. According to court documents, George has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
