A man was arrested in Myrtle Beach for allegedly holding a security checker at gunpoint,

“robbing him, and stealing his [vehicle].”

39-year-old Elijah Barker is now facing multiple charges including armed robbery and kidnapping. He is in custody with a $50,000 bond, per WPDE.

At 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, an incident occurred in a motel on S. Ocean Boulevard. While checking rooms for security, the victim noticed that Room 207 was locked with a deadbolt, even though guests weren’t supposed to be in the room, officials said in a police report.

Upon entering the room, the victim found that the main entryway light was not functioning. While in the bathroom, the suspect, identified as Barker, threatened the victim with a gun. Barker then locked the door, instructed the victim to sit, and tied him to a chair with a bedsheet. The suspect then took the victim’s car keys.

After instructing the victim to stay still for five minutes, the suspect fled the room and stole the victim’s car, which held his wallet. Officials discovered the car in a nearby parking lot and apprehended Barker, who had the victim’s car keys and a wallet-like case. Additionally, a firearm was found in close proximity.
