A 26-year-old man died just days before the birth of his first child after getting caught in Buffalo‘s blizzard storm, People reported.

Abdul Sharifu of Buffalo, N.Y., reportedly left his home on Christmas Eve after being asked by a friend if he could get milk for her baby, family members told NBC affiliate WGRZ.

His uncle, Enock Rushikana, told WGRZ that Sharifu told his wife Gloria that he would go out once the storm

“calmed.”

According to the outlet, Sharifu left his home at around noon. He was found hours later lying in the snow six blocks away from his residence.

“We got him in the car. I took off my coat, took off my hoodie,”

Savannah Jordan, who discovered Sharifu in the street, told WGRZ.

“Tried to wrap him up as much as I could. He was breathing really shallow. He still had a pulse.”

He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The family members of Sharifu said he was always willing to help others.

“He was an angel in our community. We nicknamed him ‘911,’ because whoever called him, he was ready to help, Rushikana told the outlet. A GoFundMe campaign was created to help cover Sharifu’s funeral expenses. In the description, it says Gloria, Sharifu’s wife, is expected to give birth to their first child “this week.”
