Maryland Man Arrested After Setting House On Fire With His Dad In The Basement

A Maryland man is now in police custody after setting a house on fire while his father was in the basement, CBS News Baltimore reported.

On March 31st, a witness in Aberdeen, Maryland noticed the house fire, and kicked on the front door until the two men inside exited home. Fortunately, firefighters were able to contain the flames in a matter of minutes, and nobody was hurt.

According to police, Patrick Joseph Brinsfield admitted to intentionally setting the home on fire. The 27-year-old says he was aware of the fire he started in the basement but claims he was not aware of a fire on the second floor. His motives remain unclear.

Brinsfield has since been charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, first and second-degree arson, first and second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment. After being released from the hospital, he was taken to the Harford County Detention Center, where he is currently being held without bond.
