Metro Boomin shared his perspective on TikTok songs following the news of the failed partnership between the app and UMG. He expressed relief while showing support for the creativity in making music.

Metro Boomin Reacts to UMG – TikTok Uproar

The internet was flooded with comments from fans after the UMG and TikTok dispute. One commenter pointed out that UMG’s decision to remove its artists from TikTok would mean no more music on the platform. The comment read:

“Wow, just like that, the TikTok era of music is over.”

This fan’s comment had an impact on Metro Boomin, who is an artist under UMG’s associate, Republic Records. His opinion on the matter seemed to align with UMG’s stance. He shared a LeBron James-themed GIF with the words “It’s about damn time” before writing:

“I love the creativity and appreciation the kids show for the music on TikTok, but I don’t like the forced pandering from artists and labels that result in these lifeless and soulless records.”

Universal Music Group vs. TikTok

Before Metro Boomin weighed in on the TikTok saga, UMG released an open letter addressing the social media platform. They mentioned how TikTok had showcased artists’ creativity over time but called for fairer compensation for their artists. According to VIBE, they accused TikTok of strong-arming them into accepting low payments and referred to the app’s growing audience and its impact on their expansion.

Despite this, they stated, “TikTok accounts for only about 1% of our total revenue.” On the other hand, TikTok blamed UMG for prioritizing their self-interest over their artists. They cited greed as the main factor. In the end, UMG followed through on their promise and withdrew their music roster from the app, effectively ending their partnership with TikTok. Their roster included Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Drake.
