A young Florida mother has been arrested for child neglect after her baby lost five fingers in a pitbull puppy attack, NY Post reported.

The mother, 21-year-old Chloe Wisniewski, was arrested Friday in connection to the Feb. 14 attack on her baby who she had left alone with a 3-month-old puppy, according to NBC. Wisniewski told police that she left the baby in the bassinet to go take a

“quick shower.”

She recalled hearing screaming and found the pitbull

“chewing”

on the infant’s hand, reports reveal. The pup had just been brought into the home 24 hours earlier, according to the Miami Herald.

The baby was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where doctors

“amputated three fingers from her left hand and partially amputated two fingers from her right,”

according to the affidavit per The Post.

Police say Wisniewski tested positive for THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.

The mom has since posted a $7,500 bond and was granted supervised visitation, reports note. The dog was taken to Charlotte County Animal Control, according to NBC 2. Brian Jones, division manager for Charlotte County Animal Control told the outlet,

“There are no laws that require an aggressive dog to be euthanized after biting someone,”

reports state.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office found probable cause that Wisniewski

“did, by culpable negligence, fail to provide the baby with the care and supervision and services necessary to maintain physical health,”

causing

“permanent disfigurement”

to the child, according to the paper.
