Russell Simmons has joined the list of black famous music executives being sued over sexual assault allegations. The frontliner in Def Jam Records has been accused by a Jane Doe who claimed she once worked for him. While he has yet to publicly address the situation, here is what the complaint says.

Russell Simmons’ Rape and Sexual Assault Allegations From Jane Doe

The New York Adults Survival Act has created an avenue for victims of sexual assault to come out. While this has offered many past victims the chance to tell their story, the law has not favored top music executives including Diddy and now, Def Jam Recordings co-founder.

According to the recent lawsuit against Russell Simmons, with claims of rape and sexual assault around the 1990s. Fox News reported that the woman chose to remain anonymous while uncovering the ills she experienced as an employee of Def Jams Recordings.

In the Documents filed in the Southern District of New York, Russell, who was her boss at the time, committed the offense in his own home. They had met to discuss work when he unexpectedly performed a “wrestling move.” In no time, things got out of hand, and Mr. Russell Simmons pinned Ms. Doe down on a bed.

“Ms. Doe repeatedly told Mr. Simmons to get off of her, but he refused. Mr. Russell Simmons proceeded to rape her,” said the document.

As stated in the lawsuit, before the alleged rape and sexual assault, Jane Doe had to survive her ill-mannered boss, who continued to enact inappropriate comments. He sometimes caressed his pants to get a reaction from this particular employee.

Unfortunately, the entire incident left Jane Doe in a devastating state, and she couldn’t function properly on an employee-employer basis in her new place of work.

Amid leaving behind the sour memories, the alleged victim had her fears staring into her eyes when she met Russell at a yoga class. Rather than apologize when their eyes locked, Rusell made a condescending remark that immediately showed he was unapologetic about the past.

According to the lawsuit:

“Mr. Simmons leaned towards her and whispered, ‘Of course. What, do you think I’m gonna try and f— you?’ Ms. Doe was horrified. She realized not only was Russell Simmons unapologetic towards her personally, he did not appreciate that the assault was wrong.”

Apart from suing Russell Simmons for the trauma she felt, the alleged victim is seeking economic damages that will cover a range of things. This includes “loss of employment, loss of business opportunities, loss of wages, and to compensate Ms. Doe for injuries suffered as a result of the unlawful conduct alleged herein.”
