Sherri Shepherd and Oprah Winfrey’s sisterhood is priceless. The Sherri Shepherd Show host opened up during an honest interview with People.

Sherri Shepherd Felt Honored After Oprah Winfrey Publicly Acknowledged Her Show

For the first time since the beginning of The Sherri Shepherd Show in 2022, the host brought in media mogul and billionaire Oprah Winfrey. During the show, the women bonded, and Oprah later declared support while stating that she was “passing the baton to her.”

Reminiscing the moment at the 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony, Sherri told People how Oprah’s presence affected her. Without mincing words, the show host said:

“I bawled my eyeballs out. They were swollen all night the day she came.”

As a young woman, she was in awe of Oprah’s reputation. Sherri became a first-time guest at age 23; she found herself mesmerized and questioning her dream for media.

The 56-year-old added:

“… So her saying, ‘I’m passing it to you.’ What an honor… A lot of pressure, but what an honor.”

Sherri Shepherd Struggled with Life, So She Shut Out Oprah Winfrey

Long before interviewing Oprah, Sherri refused to fuel a full-time friendship with her. But this was none of their fault. The Emmy nominee explained that her personal struggles made her shut out Oprah.

Shockingly, one of the world’s black most influential women hung on tight. Oprah encouraged and showed her the ropes in all her private and professional life.

According to Sherri, “I was in a physically abusive relationship…She’s been with me through this entire journey. Oprah will text me my ratings. She will text me, ‘You’re number two with women 25 to 54.’ Long texts. And she’s paying attention … That’s how generous Oprah is. And she gives me advice and guides me.”

At the Emmy Awards, Sherri lost her nomination to Kelly Clarkson. The singer’s show has been doing well; she deserved the win like Sherri. But that did not stop the Oprah protege from being optimistic. In a playful tone, she told Clarkson that next year’s award will be for her.
