Rap Sh!t’s Debut Season

The series follows the lives of two estranged friends from Miami, Florida. Shawna, played by Aida Osman, is a Hip-Hop head with dreams of becoming a rap star. While Mia, portrayed by rapper KaMillion, is a young mother who merely wishes to create a better life for herself and her daughter by any means necessary. The pair decided to join forces by becoming a rap duo, which has allowed them small success on social media, and in their city with the help of Chasity, played by Jonica Booth. However, these small wins didn’t come without internal and external challenges as the duo were unsure about the rap group multiple times throughout the first season, yet, decided to give it another shot in the end.

Syreeta Singleton Talks Rap Sh!t Season 2

Onsite! sat down with the showrunner of the hit series, Syreeta Singleton, to discuss the anticipated season. Singleton expressed that fans could expect to witness some interesting location changes, as well as a few surprise guests being implemented throughout the new season of the show.

“There will definitely be some familiar faces, we love a good cameo,”

said the showrunner.

She continued,

“You can expect to see Shawna and Mia on Tour. They’re in a completely different environment [for] a little more than half of the season. They’re seeing how far they’re willing to go to win and to kind of have this idea of what success looks like. I think there’s definitely an idea based off of what you see on social media.”

Singleton touched on the social media aspect of Rap Sh!t which was also a heavy theme in the first season. Singleton, who also executive produced the series alongside Issa Rae, revealed that Shawna and Mia has an idea of what success can be based off of social medial; however, they’re battling and attempting to attain that success in real-time.

“Sometimes it’s like, this is how it looks. It looks like ‘the 30 inch bust down.’ But what does it take to get that, when you don’t really have it,”

said Singleton.

“So you’re seeing these girls try to define who they are and try not to lose themselves this season,”

she continued.

Season 2 of Rap Sh!t premieres on November 9 on HBO MAX.
