Heroic Intervention: Security Guard Saves Lives at Black Church

A courageous security guard’s swift action prevented a potential tragedy at a Black church in Georgia on a Sunday morning. While patrolling the church’s parking lot in Decatur, an unidentified guard spotted an armed man. Fearlessly, he approached the individual and ordered him to drop the weapon. Despite being met with resistance, the guard managed to return fire, successfully neutralizing the threat.

The injured man was subsequently transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, sparing any harm to others present. Reverend Timothy McDonald, the church’s pastor, expressed his deep appreciation for the security guard’s heroic deeds, emphasizing that lives were saved thanks to his bravery.

“I am profoundly grateful to the security guard whose swift action prevented potential harm,”

    McDonald remarked.

“He truly embodies the spirit of a hero.”

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the increasing wave of hate crimes directed at Black churches. In 2022 alone, there were at least 28 reported hate crimes targeting Black places of worship, as documented by the National Church Arson Task Force.

The courageous intervention in Decatur underscores the presence of individuals willing to confront hatred and safeguard their communities. It reinforces the collective responsibility we share in combatting hate and violence, emphasizing the importance of remaining vigilant in the face of such challenges.

  • Paternity Testing Fiasco: Uganda’s Families Left in Turmoil

Paternity Testing Fiasco: Uganda’s Families Left in Turmoil

BBC Focus On Africa Reports that there is a sharp increase in the number of men in Uganda seeking paternity tests, fears are growing it could break up families and leave children psychologically scarred. The issue has been a hot topic of debate in the country since a tabloid newspaper published a story claiming that a well-known business tycoon – who had several wives and mistresses – had a row with one of his spouses, prompting him to request paternity tests that reportedly said he was the biological father of only 15 of his 25 children.

“We have seen social media messages where people think paternity tests are disruptive to families and can cause gender-based violence. We want to make sure that doesn’t happen because of the result which is given,”

Dr Kyabayinze told the BBC. Microbiologist Freddie Bwanga said the state laboratory where he works has not seen a major increase in requests for testing, but greater awareness now exists around the issue.

His experience over the years shows that 60-70% of tests prove a biological link between the father and child. As for the 30% to 40% who found they were not, the outcome was often beneficial in

“helping children to be settled where they are born”.

Testing is better than relying on age-old cultural practices – like smearing cow fat on the umbilical cord, and putting it in a woven basket filled with water.

Uganda’s state minister for primary health care said there was no need for men to seek paternity tests.

“Anything that you don’t know can’t kill you. If you don’t know that this is not your child, it won’t break your heart. But when you find out your heart will be broken,”

    Margaret Muhanga said.

  • Supermarket Employee Fired After He Recorded 3 Men Stealing $500 Worth Of Laundry Detergent

Supermarket Employee Fired After He Recorded 3 Men Stealing $500 Worth Of Laundry Detergent

An employee at King Soopers supermarket in Colorado was fired after following and recording shoplifters leaving the store with $500 worth of laundry detergent, according to the NY Post. The company said he went against their ‘don’t chase or intervene’ policy.

Santino Burrola, who is a former military police officer, and a former clerk at the supermarket chain claims he was just trying to help.

“When I looked there was already a guy halfway headed out with a food cart full of laundry detergents and scent boosters and what have you,”

    Burrola told CBS Colorado.

    “My first instinct, record.”

The three men who were caught on video tried moving hastily to load up their black Chevy Trax with the detergent.

“Really, bro, you got to resort to this? The economy isn’t that bad,”

Burrola could be heard saying in the video. However, two of the stooges had a hard time getting back into the vehicle which gave Burrola enough time to grab the aluminum off the license plate.

Despite his help catching the thieves and cooperating with the police investigation, Burrola was still fired from the supermarket a week after the incident.

“Me and the union rep sat down with them and they recommended termination,”

    Burrola said.

“I would never let any criminal conduct slide, especially when it’s happening right in front of me,”

    he added.

“Did I feel that I overstepped boundaries? Not really because I didn’t physically touch them or alter their shoplifting in any way, I just revealed the license plate to help the community to be aware, the police be aware and to help better catch them,”

    he told 9 News.

Police said they reached out to the registered owner of the vehicle, who had lent the car to a friend, and the driver was later found. The other two suspects are still at large
