In Indiana, a 6-month-old baby boy was attacked by rats while he was sleeping in his crib. The boy’s parents, David and Angel Schonabaum, and his aunt, Delania Thurman, were arrested and charged with neglecting the child, according to the New York Post

When the parents woke up, they found their baby covered in blood from more than 50 rat bites. The baby had bites all over his body, including his face, arms, legs, and fingers. Parts of his fingers were bitten off, exposing his bones.

The baby was taken to a hospital in Indianapolis and needed a blood transfusion because he had lost a lot of blood and his body temperature had dropped. The child lived with his family on South Linwood Avenue, along with his 3- and 6-year-old siblings and 2- and 5-year-old cousins. The Post reports that the family’s home was in a very bad condition with lots of clutter, trash, and rat feces. The police described it as one of the worst cases of neglect they had ever seen.

    Sgt. Anna Gray told 14News,

“It’s really hard to see that and sometimes it’s really hard to maintain composure and be professional.”

The children’s father claimed that they had a rodent problem since March and had been getting treatment from exterminators, but the baby wasn’t the only child that had been bitten by rats.

Authorities had been involved with the family before due to reports of negligence and abuse. The Department of Child Services had made visits and discussed safety plans, but the neglect continued.

Tourist Plummets 300 Feet To His Death After Crossing Ladder On Instagram-Popular Mountain

A 42-year-old British man fell 300 feet to his death in Austria after slipping off a ladder bridge on a mountain that is popular among tourists for its picturesque views and Instagram-worthy photos, reports the New York Post.

The man was alone on the 130-foot ladder on September 12, 2023, when he encountered difficulties and fell into the valley below. The ladder connects the lower portion of the Donnerkogel mountain to the Großer Donnerkogel, or

    “Greater”

part of the mountain, which includes the 6,740-foot peak.

Investigators ruled the man’s death an accident and ruled out any third-party negligence. The ladder is promoted as the

“new TOP attraction on the Zwieselalm for climbing enthusiasts”

by the Dachstein region tourist website, which notes that the climb is done in four stages with the ladder waiting

    “as the ultimate adrenaline kick.”

The climb is listed as a via ferrata, or

    “iron path,”

a climb that uses steel cables, rungs, pegs, and ladders that climbers are attached to via harness for their safety. However, even with safety precautions in place, accidents can still happen. This tragedy is a reminder that it is important to be aware of the risks involved in any outdoor activity, especially when climbing on challenging terrain.

    Sheriff Col. James Martin said,

“Our clerk that was reviewing it sees three Minnesota holds, didn’t realize what she was doing, obviously.”

“It’s a critical error, critical mistake. They’re identified very specifically by the originating agency that did it. They have a specific ID number, they’re all different and the case numbers are all different,”

    he went on to say.

The victim’s family is frustrated and feels that justice is being delayed. The victim’s sister, Shannell Catchings, informed FOX59,

“For 27 months I’ve been trying to get some type of justice and then now I just feel like we’re back at square one.”

    She continued,

Sex Offender Arrested After Meeting Teen Online and Posing As Her Friend’s Father When He Picked Her Up and Met Her Mother

On Wednesday, a man from St. Petersburg, Florida, Austin Lawrence Powers, 26, was apprehended after reportedly meeting a 14-year-old girl on the internet, and traveling to pick her up in an effort to take her back to his home, according to Fox News.

The minor was reported as a runaway back in June 2023. Officers arrived at the girl’s home after responding to the report. During their visit, officials spoke to the teen’s parents, who recently learned she was discreetly speaking to an older man on Snapchat. • Dentist Given Probation After Causing Brain Damage With Root Canal On 4-Year-Old Girl, Attorney Says She ‘Can No Longer Speak, Walk, Or Eat On Her Own’

Dentist Given Probation After Causing Brain Damage With Root Canal On 4-Year-Old Girl, Attorney Says She ‘Can No Longer Speak, Walk, Or Eat On Her Own’

A dentist, Bethaniel Jefferson, has been placed on probation just seven years after doing a root canal on a 4-year-old girl, which resulted in her permanent brain damage, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

James Moriarty, the girl’s family attorney, said back in September 2022,

“Nevaeh Hall … is conscious, but can no longer see, speak, walk or eat on her own. She requires 24-hour medical care.”

Reports say the dentist allegedly waited hours before contacting emergency officials during the procedure that occurred in January 2016. The young girl became unconscious while still at the dentist and was later diagnosed with brain damage.

Jefferson’s medical license was rescinded back in Nov. 2016 by the Texas Dental Board, according to KWTX. This week, Jefferson was declared guilty of recklessly causing serious bodily injury to a child by omission. Although the jury suggested that she spend 10 years behind bars, the judge sentenced her to a five-year probationary period.

The sentence comes just one year after the girl’s family was granted $95.5 million in damages amid a family trial; however, her family is unlikely to receive that amount because the dentist doesn’t have the funds to compensate them, a family lawyer told KTRK.

Man Arrested and Charged After Setting His Cousin’s Car On Fire, Reports Say His Cousin Is Also His Girlfriend

37-year-old Melvin Alain Cintron has been arrested after setting his girlfriend and cousin’s car ablaze. According to the New York Post, the woman is allegedly both his cousin and girlfriend. Cintron was captured on camera setting the Jaguar XE sedan on fire back on April, 29, in front of a home in North Miami

Officials learned the vehicle belonged to his lover and cousin and they recently interviewed her on Monday, per Local 10. Initially, she claimed that her vehicle caught on fire while driving home because she was worried about the repercussions from Cintron. Whenever she discussed the incident concerning her car with investigators, her boyfriend/cousin insisted that the phone be placed on speaker. However, when she was finally able to speak with officials alone, she informed them that she was scared of Cintron because he carried a gun with him at all times.

The unidentified woman also told authorities that on Friday the suspect stole her purse and abandoned her at a shopping center with no way of returning home. The man allegedly became jealous after he assumed the bartender was flirting with his girlfriend/cousin, leading the odd couple to get into an argument. He later grabbed her purse, which had $1,200 cash inside of it, officials say.

Cintron was charged with second-degree arson and third-degree grand theft.

  • Man Reportedly Kept Wife’s Corpse In Freezer So He Could Continue To Collect Her Pension

Man Reportedly Kept Wife’s Corpse In Freezer So He Could Continue To Collect Her Pension

A Norwegian man was sentenced to three and a half years by the Swedish court after officials discovered his partner’s corpse in a freezer. According to Fox, he kept her there in an effort to continue collecting her pension.

    The 57-year-old man’s attorney said,

“They didn’t want to be buried at a public cemetery but at the farm, actually.”

“So he put her in the freezer to later bury her outside and then it fell by the wayside,”

    the lawyer added.

The man informed friends and relatives that his wife, 60, was alive although she passed away from cancer back in 2018. Her relatives reported her a missing person after they lost contact with her. The man reportedly redirected their attempts at connecting with her as he initially made excuses, and later resulted in informing them that she didn’t want to talk to them.

Authorities discovered her corpse in March after a tip. The man later confessed to hiding her body as well as her passing. First, he said his reasoning behind this was to wait until spring so that he could lay her to rest near a farm in Varmland. One report claimed her dismembered her body and placed her in a freezer where he stored food. Through his fraudulent scheme, he was discovered to have earned slightly less than $117,000, said prosecutors.

The man had also altered the ownership and registrations of vehicles using his wife’s name. During the trial, the unnamed man claimed that he communicated with his deceased partner through telepathy. However, court-appointed psychiatrists confirmed his mental health remained unchanged, which debunked his claim.

He has been convicted on several charges including gross breach of civil liberties, gross fraud, mutilating a corpse, and falsification of documents. He has been ordered the pay the money back.

The woman reportedly did drugs with them and engaged in sexual activity with the other of them while her son was in the room. Kemper informed officials that she later left the room with the one man while she left her son in the room with the other man, who was allegedly

The following day, the man was discovered in the room unconscious and later declared deceased at the location.

California School District Ordered To Pay $2.5 Million To Sex Abuse Victim Of Teacher Who Had Student’s Baby

A Southern California school district has reached a settlement of $2.25 million with a victim of sexual abuse by a teacher, who was impregnated by another student. This settlement adds to the total amount of $8.25 million that the Redlands Unified School District has paid to victims of Laura Whitehurst since her arrest in 2013, reports FOX.

The most recent lawsuit was filed in 2021 by a former student of Redlands High School. The plaintiff’s attorney stated that the student was targeted by Whitehurst between 2007 and 2008 when he was only 14 years old. According to the lawsuit, Whitehurst admitted to engaging in sexual activity with the student approximately 15 times, both at her San Bernardino classroom and her apartment

Whitehurst, an English teacher and soccer coach, pleaded guilty to having unlawful sex with three former students, one of whom is the father of her child. She was sentenced to six months in jail and registered as a sex offender in 2014, the same year she gave birth.

In 2016, the school district agreed to pay an additional $6 million to another victim, who is the father of Whitehurst’s child. The abuse took place over the course of a year, starting when the student was 16 years old.

The victim in the recent lawsuit claimed that officials at Redlands Unified were aware of his relationship with the teacher but failed to alert his family, leading to the ongoing abuse.

  • A Powerful Earthquake Strikes Morocco, Killing More Than 2,000

A Powerful Earthquake Strikes Morocco, Killing More Than 2,000

A devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 struck Morocco, claiming the lives of over 2,000 individuals and leaving thousands injured. This powerful tremor epicentered in the High Atlas mountain range, approximately 72 kilometers southwest of Marrakech.

The impact has been severe, resulting in widespread destruction of buildings and critical infrastructure. Among the hardest-hit areas is the city of Ijjoukak, where numerous structures now lie in ruins.

Search and rescue operations persist as responders endeavor to reach survivors and evaluate the full scope of the catastrophe. The Moroccan government has declared a three-day period of mourning for those lost in the tragedy.

This event serves as a stark reminder of Morocco’s susceptibility to seismic activity, owing to its location within the Mediterranean seismic belt, a region prone to earthquakes.

While Morocco has taken measures to construct earthquake-resistant buildings, this recent disaster underscores the necessity for additional investments in earthquake preparedness.

The global community has rallied to support Morocco during this difficult time. The United Nations has extended offers of aid in search and rescue operations, medical care, and provision of shelter.
