Sadly, a 19-year-old hiker lost his life while capturing photos at Moonscape Overlook in Utah, reports Fox News. Jonathan Fielding, who had recently moved to the state, was exploring the Hanksville area with friends when the accident took place.

The incident occurred on Saturday, and Fielding’s family confirmed the news of his passing. According to reports from FOX 13 Salt Lake City and his obituary, Fielding lived in Orem, Utah, which is approximately a three-hour drive from the hiking location.

“While the passing of Jonathan was unexpected, we take some comfort knowing that he was doing what he loved at the time of the accident,”

his obituary said,

“He was on a photo shoot with friends in the beautiful Utah wilderness where he loved to be.”

Fielding’s sister Rebecca called the

“tragic accident”

a

“cautionary tale.”

In a post on Facebook, she wrote,

“It was a tragic accident, but Jonathan should be a cautionary tale to anyone who hikes or does photography… No view is worth the suffering that your family and friends will go through. No view is worth the risk that rescuers face when trying to save people and recover bodies.”

Jonathan Fielding is survived by his loving parents, grandparents, and five sisters. He spent his childhood in Missouri, where he excelled as a pole vaulter at his high school and achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. Additionally, Fielding was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, reports state.

“While Jonathan’s time in life was limited, his impact on others was not. He was loved by many. He will be missed by all that knew him,”

his obituary said.
