Truck Driver Arrested After Officials Learned He Was On TikTok When He Caused Crash That Killed 5 People

A truck driver from Arizona is facing several charges after he caused a fatal accident resulting in the death of five people. According to reports, 36-year-old Danny G. Tiner, was on TikTok when it occurred. 

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) said Tiner is facing five counts of homicide, four counts of endangerment, and one of tampering with physical evidence, reports the New York Post

Reports say that the 36-year-old was

“actively using the TikTok application on his cell phone”

as

“he drove 68 mph in a 55-mph construction zone.”

As he drove, his tractor-trailer slammed into halted traffic close to 6:14 a.m. back on Jan. 12. 

The commercial truck pushed two vehicles between another semi-truck as well as two other cars. Sadly, the cars exploded into flames, leaving 5 people deceased, reports 3TV/CBS 5. As a result, the freeway was shut down for 11 hours. 

Tiner first told officials that he was reviewing a text message on his work tablet when the crash came about, a statement said. However, FBI and AZDPS investigators later inspected his phone and learned he was on TikTok.

Reports say Tiner is currently behind bars.
