Doctors were left scratching their heads when a woman from Wisconsin found herself with an extra pair of holes in her backside after she slid into an MRI with a loaded gun.
According to records from the Food and Drug Administration, the 57-year-old unknowingly brought a loaded firearm into an MRI machine during a routine doctor’s visit in June, per The Post. As she was being loaded into the machine’s bore, the
“powerful magnets”
activated, causing the metal trigger to accidentally trip and the gun to discharge, reports reveal.
“Patient received a gunshot wound in the right buttock area,”
the Use of Device Problem report submitted by the woman’s insurance company to the FDA in July read.
“The patient was examined by a physician at the site who described the entry and exit holes as very small and superficial, only penetrating subcutaneous tissue.”
The woman received medical treatment for her injuries and has fully recovered from the incident. It remains unclear how she managed to bring a weapon into the MRI room. The report states that she underwent a routine screening for metal objects before entering and claimed to have none on her.
According to the outlet, MRI machines, which utilize strong magnetic fields to produce images of the human body, require patients to remove all metal objects due to the intense magnetism. Additionally, all items entering the machine rooms are carefully monitored to prevent everyday objects from becoming dangerous weapons.
