A Utah woman, who wrote a children’s book on how to cope with grief after her husband’s sudden death, has been arrested and charged with his murder, per the Associated Press.
Kouri Richins, of Summit County, Utah, was arrested on Monday. She is accused of poisoning her husband, Eric Richins,
“with a lethal dose of fentanyl,”
reports revealed.
According to court documents obtained by Insider, authorities responded to a call from Richins where she reportedly told dispatchers that she found her husband unresponsive and
“cold to the touch.”
When officers arrived at the home they discovered the victim lying at the foot of the bed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The mother of three explained to police that she had fixed her husband a cocktail to celebrate closing on a house for a business, reports reveal. After giving him the drink, Richins told investigators that she had gone up to put their child to bed and fell asleep in the child’s room.
However, a medical examiner later confirmed that the husband had died from
“five times the lethal dosage of fentanyl”
found in his system. Richins allegedly purchased 15 to 30 fentanyl pills through an acquaintance for $900, according to investigators. The seller told investigators that Kouri
“asked for ‘some of the Michael Jackson stuff,'”
the documents said.
After her husband’s death, Richins went on a press run to promote her new children’s book titled
“Are You with Me?”
which was published on March 5. She now faces charges of first-degree aggravated murder and three counts of second-degree possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, the documents show.
