An 18-year-old man, Fahd Mahdi, from Utah, has been charged after reportedly shooting his girlfriend in the leg after she decided to go to a party without him, according to the New York Post.

Mahdi was charged in connection to the shooting of his 17-year-old girlfriend, which occurred on Aug. 7. He reportedly informed the girl that

“if she went without him there would be trouble,”

says charging documents obtained by KSL.com

He went on to follow her to the gathering and ordered her to go home. According to the records,

“He threatened to hurt her and told her that he was not afraid to punch her in front of everyone.”

Later on in the evening, the man allegedly bent down next to the girl as she was sitting in the back of her friend’s vehicle and went on to fire a gun at her, striking her leg. The charges say,

“[She] stated that Mahdi displayed a pistol, and she asked him if he had taken pictures with the gun. [She] reported that her ears started to ring, and she realized that she had been shot in the leg by Mahdi.”

The teen was transported to a nearby hospital by a friend, where she had surgery

“for a broken femur.”

She went on to point out Mahdi as the shooter. He was arrested the following week and charged with discharge of a firearm causing serious injury, a first-degree felony, according to The Post.

He has a previous history of being mentally and physically abusive towards the victim.
