Just ahead of Disney’s fiscal first-quarter earnings report on CNBC, Disney CEO Bob Iger disclosed that Moana 2 will be released as a feature sequel, and a surprise theater release is slated for Nov. 27. In addition, he announced that a live-action remake starring Dwayne Johnson is already in the works.

“This was originally developed as a series, but we were impressed with what we saw, and we knew it deserved a theatrical release,” Iger said during the company’s earnings call.

“Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise,” said Iger, “and we can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui when Moana 2 comes to theaters this November.”

The description of the sequel hints that it will be “an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced”. Moana will take viewers on an extensive journey after receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, leading her into the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous long-lost waters. The film will be directed by David Derrick Jr.
