The Kitchen is based on the lives of Izi and Benji with the government having removed social housing. Izi and Benji’s lives are set in a hauntingly dystopian future London; however, they still feel hope flutter within them. As residents of The Kitchen, a close-knit community, they boldly face down the world in which everyone else would rather steamroll them back to their original form. Despite these hardships, The Kitchen has become a symbol of unbroken resistance. It refuses to give up its prized haven.

In a crumbling infrastructure shared by a divided society, Izi and Benji’s struggle for survival becomes an example of toughness. Their struggle to save their community and protect its people sounds another resounding note of solidarity— one that grows louder by the day against an overall regime as oppressive, even now, and increasingly so in hindsight.

In the oppressive environment of this desolate world, The Kitchen’s inhabitants build unshakeable kinships, arming themselves with their group force to bear up under a tempest. The more intense the war for their homes, the greater becomes their uncompromising spirit. Stories like these help affirm that even when faced with our darkest hours there is still hope to be found in this world.

Netflix will release The Kitchen on Jan. 19, 2024.

We hope you’re just as excited about the film coming up. The Kitchen is directed by Daniel Kaluuya and written by Kibwe Tavares. This project will capture the attention of audiences with its exceptional talent, and creative vision.
