A 75-year-old man in Georgia suffered severe burns to 75% of his body after attempting to open a bag of chips using a lighter, reports WSBTV Atlanta.
The incident occurred at an apartment complex on Sir Lancelot Place in Dalton on Wednesday afternoon. The man, whose identity remains unknown, resorted to using a lighter when he couldn’t open the bag with his hands. Unfortunately, in the process of trying to open the bag, he accidentally set himself on fire while sitting in a recliner.
Maintenance workers swiftly intervened and managed to control the fire using a hose. The man was immediately transported to a hospital in Chattanooga, where he received treatment for third-degree burns.
Subsequently, he was transferred to a specialized burn center for further care. At present, there is no information available regarding his current condition. The exact cause of the fire and whether the bag of chips played a role in igniting it remain unclear. It is worth noting that chips can be highly flammable due to their oil content.
