reports Law & Crime

According to authorities, Marion County Sheriff Corporal Jordan Tripp witnessed a 2002 BMW speeding through a red light at 100 mph late on Sunday evening. Tripp immediately activated his emergency lights and began pursuing the vehicle. The driver, identified as 19-year-old Michael Joseph Gonzalez, eventually lost control of the car and veered off the road.

Tripp approached Gonzalez, but he quickly fled the scene, reaching speeds of 90 mph and endangering other motorists. Despite efforts to stop the suspect, Tripp was unable to apprehend him due to the speed. Approximately 30 minutes later, other deputies located Gonzalez as he pulled into a 7-Eleven gas station. They conducted a felony traffic stop and successfully took Gonzalez into custody.

“Post Miranda, the driver advised he had fled from law enforcement because he thought he could get away with it and it would be fun,”

the affidavit said.

Gonzalez was apprehended by deputies and charged with fleeing and eluding, showing a reckless disregard for the safety of others and property. He was released from jail after posting a $5,000 bond.
