A knife wielding man has been detained after stabbing several people, including four young children, in a park in the French Alps on Thursday, NY Post reported.

The suspect, identified by police as a 31-year-old Syrian man, reportedly entered the park with a  knife, ambushing numerous victims. According to authorities four children between the ages of 22 months and 3 years old, were stabbed. They suffered life-threatening injuries, and two adults were also wounded in the attack.

In a video posted to social media, the man can be seen wearing dark glasses, a blue scarf over his head, and holding what appears to be a knife. People can be heard in the background screaming for help. The suspect is also heard saying

“on name of Jesus Christ”

as he waved his knife in the air.

Prosecutors revealed that the suspect is a political refugee in Sweden. The Swedish Migration Agency told the local outlet that,

“he was granted permanent residency in 2013.”

The suspect reportedly applied for Swedish citizenship in 2017 and 2018, both times he was denied, and applied again in August 2022.
