The overwhelming success from the Game of Thrones series led to the production of the House of the Dragon and another similar project is in the works written by the Batman Part 2 writer, Mattson Tomlin.

HBO is in the development of a spin-off series with the idea of showcasing the tale of Aegon’s Conquest of the seven kingdoms. The tale is basically a direct prequel to the smash hit House of the Dragon, telling the story of the Targaryen’s bloody and brutal conquest of Westeros.

The story follows Aegon Targaryen the invader, who conquered the continent of Westeros with his sister wives, Rhaenys and Visenya, and their dragons. Aegon successfully unified six of the Seven Kingdoms in just two years, with only Dorne able to successfully resist.

According to Hollywood Reporter, One source described the project as taking a “back to basics” approach to George R.R. Martin’s epic fantasy universe (though considering the first series was sprawling and complex, it’s unclear what “back to basics” means, exactly, in the Thrones context) Aegon’s Conquest was previously reported as an idea in discussion early last year.

A disheartening story should be expected from the film as the Targaryen spared nothing in his quest to capture Westeros. The new series will likely delve into these massacres and how the house of Targaryen rose to prominence.

In addition, details concerning the cast and release date are yet to be announced.
