Georgia Man Turns Himself In To Maryland Police For The Strangulation and Murder Of His Girlfriend

A man from Spalding County has been accused of murdering his girlfriend in Maryland, reports WSBTV

Carl Kearney Jr., 43, from Griffin, Georgia, turned himself in at the Division V Clinton Police Station in Maryland on Saturday, February 17. He confessed to authorities that he strangled his girlfriend, Patrina Best, 38, during an argument at her home in Accokeek earlier that morning.

Police officers conducted a welfare check at the residence and discovered Best unresponsive. She was declared deceased at the scene. Kearney faces charges of 1st and 2nd Degree Murder. 

Kearney, identified as the head football coach at Spalding High School, was honored as the 2023 2-AAAA Coach of the Year according to the Griffin-Spalding School System website.
