The highly acclaimed director, Greta Gerwig, known for her work on movies such as
“Lady Bird”
and
“Little Women,”
is reported to be writing and directing at least two films based on C.S. Lewis‘ Narnia series for Netflix.
She expressed her excitement about the opportunity, but in a recent interview with BBC Radio 4 Today, she shared her concerns and worries. She explained that while she is thrilled by the project, she also feels a deep respect for the source material and a strong desire to treat these beloved books properly.
Gerwig compared her emotions to an American attempting to tackle Shakespeare, emphasizing the responsibility she feels as a non-British creator.
Although the specific books that will be adapted into movies have not been revealed yet, Gerwig sees her fear as a good starting point for such an ambitious undertaking. With the success of Gerwig’s previous film,
“Barbie,”
there is high anticipation for her innovative take on this beloved fantasy world.
