A man has been taken into custody after he was discovered asleep inside a residence belonging to a family in Texas, reports the Daily Mail. The man, identified as Daniel Alexander Rodriguez-Olivares, was arrested for allegedly causing a fatal collision in the family’s front yard.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Rodriguez-Olivares was under the influence of alcohol and driving at high speed when he crashed his 2016 BMW into a culvert, causing the vehicle to fly into the air and flip multiple times before finally coming to rest. After the crash, Rodriguez-Olivares reportedly broke into the homeowner’s property.

“I know someone try to break into my window. I never know the car was here,”

homeowner, Carlos Suarec told the outlet. Suarec said he and his family evacuated the home after learning the intruder was inside and immediately notified the police. When officers arrived on the scene they discovered an unconscious Rodriguez-Olivares inside one of the bedrooms of the property, and a woman dead inside the BMW.

Law enforcement officials have indicated that the driver is anticipated to face charges of intoxication manslaughter. Following the incident, the driver was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The passenger, described as a young woman in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“There’s no reason at all to drive while intoxicated,”

Sergeant Bondurant of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office told the outlet.

“[In] 2023 almost 2024, we have Uber, we have Lyft’s. Heck, call 911 and we’ll come get you.”
